I ended up.in hospital with them last week, told I needed a scan but it didn't happen and after a few hours on IV pain relief was eventually packed off home with codiene and buscopan and told to expect an appointment in the post. (( for the scan )) I've had waves of pain since then, but nothing as bad as that first night, doctor Google.tells me to.expect this, I'm.not too worried about that......I am however also extremely bloated and constantly farting and doing huge burps. Has anyone else had this ? I'm starting to worry something more sinister could be going on.

I had a kidney stone last year. The pain came out of nowhere and was horrific. I did have a scan and an X ray which showed where the stone was, then was sent home with pain relief to wait for it to pass. I felt horribly shivery and in a lot of discomfort that night. I had a follow up scan after a few weeks and it had gone.
I drink litres of water now and hope that I don't get more.

Almost ten years ago — DS was a small baby, but the pain made labour seem like a mild twinge (and I was crap at labour…) I had to go to A and E in the middle of the night, got sent home with pain relief, stone eventually passed of its own accord. A few twinges in the years since, but no recurrence. My dad had them periodically when he was younger so possibly a genetic link?

My mum had them, she started ironically when she was at the hospital with me after an op. We had to stop on the way home for her to be sick from the pain & it took her a week to pass it. Drink gallons, my uncle swore he only coped with the pain & managed to pass his by drinking whisky & Giner ale, he drank 2 bottles in 5 days & passed it.

I am the Queen of kidney stones. There is no pain like it in the world and no relief without quality (hospital given) pain killers.

I don’t recall a particular problem with burping/ wind, but it could be down to the pain medication blocking you up.

drink water, then more water. Then water again.

Thanks all, yes I've been drinking plenty.......we list a family member to pancreatic cancer so the excess wind is setting off my spidey senses (( their only symptom until the day they suddenly turned yellow )) I've been taking a laxative along with my codiene and had no issues there.......tho I'm trying to get by on paracetamol because codiene makes me feel spaced out, can't win at the mo 😑

Nurse hat on.
Can you please pee into a container and look to see if you have passed the stone?
We call it straining urine as you are literally doing that.
Stone gets sent to pathology to work out what it is made from. Dietary advice is based on the type of stone.
Drink lots of tap water, avoid carbonated. (This may help gas problem).
If gas continues after stone is passed and you are off all associated medication, see your Dr.

I have had kidney stones and I don't have any advice but just to say I feel for you. I presumably passed mine and it felt like it should be a boulder not what must have been tiny grains the size of dust.

PutinSmellsPassItOn · 04/01/2023 01:39

Weenurse I will start doing that yes.

I don't think I've passed the stone yet wee varies from very dark brown, sometimes streaked with blood and sometimes clear and normal.

I've actually had kidneystones before about 25 years ago and it ended in a 3 night hospital stay becauseI couldn't wee...... Must say I seemed to get over them a lot quicker last time, this time I feel like I've been hit by a bus. Blush
