Visiting French AND Italian Riviera?

Following on from my post the other day re places DH and I could visit which are similar to Nice, we’ve fell in love with places along the French and Italian Riviera.

Does anyone have experience of combining both in to one holiday? I was thinking of flying in to Nice, basing ourselves in Antibes for 4 nights or so. Then getting the train from Nice to Genoa and explore the Italian Riviera. I like the look of Portofino.

Would we be better splitting this in to two different holidays?

Any recommendations of where we can visit would be much appreciated

I haven't done both in one trip (but I think it sounds like a lovely idea!) but just wanted to suggest staying outside of Portofino (we stayed in Santa Margarita Ligure) and going on a boat trip there for the day. It's beautiful but we were there for about 5 hours and that was plenty of time for a leisurely lunch and wander around. Accommodation is much more expensive in Portofino than the surrounding towns and they all have more to see and lovely beaches too.
