FB Marketplace - possible red flag?

I don’t use Facebook much, only for marketplace and some groups I’m interested in.

I have a sofa for sale and someone has created a group with the exact same title as my advert (so the group is called “Lovely 2-seater leather sofa for sale”). He has then messaged me to ask for more photos of the sofa.

I really don’t understand why he’s created a separate group, with him as the only member, and then messaged me instead of just messaging me directly?

Any ideas? Do people do this? I’m not sure how I could be scammed as it’s an item that would be collected in person and I’ll ask for cash or PayPal (but not the friends & family option)

This is how market place works they create this for the buyer and seller to chat and keep track which item it's for

That's how it works, it's because you contact through marketplace and not like how you'd message a friend

Vileta is correct. Facebook will have done that when he messaged you.

That's literally just how messenger works. For whatever reason when you go to message a seller it just calls the message a group, with your item title, instead of a chat.

Phew! Thanks all. I don’t use messenger much either so didn’t realise that’s how it works 🙂

I think it’s fairly new.
