Child passport renewal - fast track processing

Hello

I have paid for a fast track renewal of a child’s passport and am going along to the London office early next week. The service is supposed to take a week but I’m wondering whether this is reliable. We are due to be going abroad in mid February so it should be fine but am feeling a bit nervous !

Does anyone have any recent experience of how long it takes for the fast track renewal service and does anyone know what secure delivery method the Passport Office uses?

I did this in the summer and booked a face to face appointment at a passport office. It was all very good. Quick on the day and the passports arrived in the post within the week.

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. That is reassuring!

It’s not strictly what you asked but I did a normal online renewal for DS before Christmas. Applied on 27 November, new passport arrived 8 December. I’d assume fast track would be even quicker.

Mine was a little while back now but arrived four days after the face to face. Good luck!

It's very reliable. My child arrived within 6 days.

Also when you use fastrack, they pledge to cover any costs incurred due to delays in issuing the passport. So even in the extremely unlikely event you don't receive the passport in time you can claim back costs incurred due to it.

Passport not child 😂😂

I got a passport renewal in 12 days using standard delivery during the postal strikes recently

losingit31 · 03/01/2023 17:22

DH just renewed his, we live overseas and it was collected by DHL, delivered to passport office and the new one delivered to him at our home in exactly one week - impressive!

harktheherold · 03/01/2023 17:25

I did a standard (non fast track) kids renewal recently and it came back in about 10 days. So yeah I'm sure fast track will get you sorted well before mid Feb!

Thank you all. I have been fretting about whether I had left it too late do this is all v reassuring. Fingers crossed 🤞

I renewed my DC's passports by post last month, and it took a week exactly from posting their old passports back to receiving the new ones.

KenAdams · 03/01/2023 18:53

I've just booked an appointment for Monday as we're flying mid Feb too.

Friend of mine got caught out with the fast track for children as her son just turned 16 and they couldn't do it, had to do the normal long wait one

First time child passport via fast-track
HM Passport Office also offers the one week Fast Track 1 Week Service for first time child passports, you can book this appointment in the following ways.

(!) Note: they do not offer this service for first time adults over the age of 15, so if your child has recently turned 16 and has never had a British passport, then they cannot use the fast-track services and must apply using the standard 6-8 week service.

In case anyone is interested - the fast track renewals process was v efficient. I had the appointment on Monday and the passport arrived on Thursday.

Glad you got it!

I applied for a child's first passport on the 5th Jan, no fast track and got it yesterday (13th), so they're pretty quick right now even without the fast track element.

FleemingJ · 23/05/2024 11:34

Just to add to this as we recently had a flap - we applied for fast track on the Thursday evening, had a face to face appointment on the Friday morning. They completed checks Tuesday night (late) and I got an email, they had printed it by Wednesday morning (early) and it arrived via Royal Mail sign for delivery on Thursday lunchtime. So it was 6 days from the appointment.

Were unsure when to change our flights to, but am glad we went for after the 7 days were up, as I think that seems to be fairly safe.

Fast track child's passport - has anyone had any experience of getting this in less than a week???

We go away on Friday 9th and I've just pulled out passports out but realised I've got the wrong year for my son's and it runs out whilst we are away... I thought it was until 2025, I feel like a complete idiot! I've just booked a fast track appointment on Tuesday afternoon, but I'm wondering if the 7 day is accurate if if there's any miracle it could arrive before midday Friday?! Don't know whether to change my ferry booking now or hold my breath and wait. Luckily we are campervanning and don't have our first site booked until the 12th, but still thinking I might need to change that too!

Any advice or experience to help me from having a complete breakdown whilst waiting would be most welcome!

Thank you!
