Ds 12 is autistic and is in year 7 - mainstream but needs to be in a sen school, going to start looking into moving him soon but I know it won't be an easy process. He already has an EHCP but getting the LA to agree to a specialist school here is a long process.
DS knows teachers shout more at secondary, not so much at him but other children and he seems to have little problem with this most of the time. But there's one specific teacher who he is 'scared' of because he shouts a lot and loudly. DS works hard to be well behaved at school (he masks heavily at school) so it's very rare he will get shouted at and the teachers know shouting don't work with DS anyway. But he has this specific teacher for a few lessons and DS said he shouts at the other kids really loud and it makes him jump. There's also another kid with the same name as DS in the class who apparently gets shouted at a lot and DS always thinks the teacher is shouting st him. DS also says that the teachers facial expressions scare him. I couldn't be a teacher, I haven't got the patience and sympathise with teachers but I feel that this specific teacher might be more shouty than the average teacher. DS was in tears last night because she knew he had this one teacher. He hasn't got a problem with any of the other teachers. DS says his shouting and facial expressions makes him jump and scares him.
although said teacher hasn't shouted at DS directly, it still scares DS. The teacher hasn't shouted at him but has made some derogatory comments to DS. DS is severely behind academically (year 2 sort of level).
obviously I can't tell a teacher to stop shouting at other kids because it's upsetting DS. We have tried the obvious thing if ear defenders/ear plugs but DS won't keep them in or loses them.
DS has had to leave the lessons to go to the student support because it got too much.
not sure what else I can suggest?
