Without spoiling it for anyone who hasn't seen it - because it is a very good film - do any of the female characters have any conversations between them that do not include a man in either the conversation or the topic?

Peg and Birdie about why Birdie's phone is confiscated!

Mmm from memory yes

It does. But it is also a type of film where pretty much every conversation is between two people, about someone else. Or it’s a one person monologue at a group.

Yes - Peg and Birdie’s conversation about the phone, and they have a conversation later about an email Birdie received about clothing manufacturing.

Andi and Whiskey have a conversation about Whiskey’s future plans, but that does include Whiskey talking about Duke to start with, so may not count. There’s also a brief exchange between Whiskey and Duke’s mother at the start of the film.

exactly, there’s few conversations that aren’t about the main plot which is obviously very person focused.

So they do. I'd forgotten that one.

I find it interesting with this type of film to do a reverse bechdel test - how many conversations between two men not featuring a woman and not about a woman - and do you know, I can only think of Leslie Odom Jr's character's video call with another scientist right at the start when his box is delivered. All the other conversations between two men feature Andi or Whiskey.

What about when (careful now, no spoilers) one of the male characters asks Blanc why he is there?

OP posts:

That could be another one - or does referencing 'any of the other guests', the other guests being a mixed group, count as a reference to a woman?

Arrrgh this is such a hard film to talk about without spoilers. (Am bang on board with not spoiling it though - really enjoyed it, looked forward to it since the teaser and would have been gutted to be spoiled, wouldn't want to do that to anyone else.)
