She's 7 and starting guitar lessons but quite short at 113cm tall- I'm confused about whether to get a 1/4 or a 1/2 size guitar, and classical or acoustic..

I don't want to spend too much in case she doesn't love it, does this one on Amazon look okay?

1/4 size will be too small. I got a 3/4 size electric for my then 8 year old 3 years ago and he was fairly small in height. He's now got a full size electric.

I agree, get the biggest one she can manage as it will last her longer if she does take to it.

Is she having lessons? My 15y old started having lessons at school at about 8/9 and I got him a 3/4 size one which he had until last year/Grade 6 when I had to upgrade him to a full size (expensive) spanish guitar. My 12y old has recently started learning at secondary school and has his old one, doing Grade 1. Both are Classical guitars which is what music teachers want them to have. If she's going to teach herself on youtube etc Acoustic might be fine. My15y old now has expensive Classical guitar, electric gutar and a ukelele and still also wants to get an acoustic guitar! He is massivley into guitar playing though and its hard to tell at primary age whethe it will stick or not.

Sorry i've just noticed you did say she is starting lesson - I'd double check with the teacher but I reckon they will say 3/4 Classical.

My small 8 year old uses a 1/4 size. My average 10 year old uses a 1/2 size.

Also I am lying - I have just checked on Amazon and this is the one my son had from day 1 and it is full size! I could have sworn it is smaller than his new one but it actually isnt. He was 9 and average sized. www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005LG2JN4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

As I say, it did him from 9 to doing Grade 6 at 14. I guess at 7 with smaller hands you may need to start with a cheaper 3/4 one?

3/4 acoustic guitar. There is also a 'backpackers' guitar. But probably not worth the expense at this stage.

Thanks everyone, I have to say though I'm just as confused as before 😅

3/4 acoustic all the way. Especially if she is having lessons. We got our first from Argos. Perfectly fine. DD went to full size at 10. Now rocking with her Dad 🙄🤣

3/4 size classic (nylon strings easier for beginners)
