Royal Mail delays

Hi

I was expecting a parcel in mid December from a seller who receives items from abroad. They are saying that they haven’t received their parcel due to Royal Mail strikes. Roughly how long are things delayed by at the moment? Wondering if I will receive or any time soon as I really need item by a certain date.

I have just had a delivery today for a tracked item that was posted out to me on 8th December.

Im still waiting for another couple of tracked items. One posted 3rd Dec & one posted 15th December. The backlog -depending on areas/sorting office-is huge.

I'm waiting for something that was posted to me before Christmas and have had nothing.

There have also been Christmas cards sent in early December which haven't arrived yet.

I sent a birthday card in Novemeber to a friend in the Birmingham area and it's not turned up either.

Am I right that they are prioritising parcels over letters?

They are prioritising special deliveries and also anything that is posted now is going first and they are slowly working through the backlog, if that makes sense.

The backlog is not the first stuff getting delivered.

They were certainly prioritising parcels over letters before Christmas. Our postie said they been told to ignore the cages of letters in favour of parcels. Although much of the letter post was probably cards, there could have been important letters which weren’t delivered or have been delayed. Unfortunately some organisations don’t use email or text still. Postie said he’d decided to alternate cages so some letter post got through.

Certainly, orders via RM come with the caveat that they may be delayed. Begs the question as to why companies don’t use another carrier.

In our case, we cannot swap to another carrier as the majority of our items are Large letter size. Swapping to anyone else would add over £2 to the price. Trust me, as soon as another carrier is happy to deliver LL size items at a reasonable price we will be moving away from Royal Mail

If it’s coming from abroad are you sure it’s not delayed by customs?

Yes, it’s correct that they are prioritising parcels over letters as the CEO says that’s what the customer wants. If you are a Royal Mail customer and it’s not what you want then let’s all make an effort to let him know!
