How to improve my flexibility?

stripeyreds0cks · 02/01/2023 23:54

I'm 40 and my mother can get up and down from the floor better than I can.
I would say I'm quite strong but my flexibility is appalling.
Does anyone have any tips or routine recommendations that may help?
Thanks

Gentle yoga is good. I prefer in person classes so you can get personal guidance.

Another vote for yoga, vinyasa is the gentle flowing type that is perfect for increasing flexibility.

I'd ideally get some one to one guidance but I've recently picked up a second job and time is a bit of an issue unfortunately.

Have you tried those elastic flexibility bands. You use them for just 5 mins morning and night.

The 'pliability' app is great op

There are some good YouTube stretching videos. But if your issue is getting up from the floor you might need to work on your strength, particularly your core. Maybe try some beginner Pilates on YouTube, that will work on strength and flexibility.

Follow Tom Morrison on Facebook/YouTube - I'm doing his SMM Simplistic Mobility Method and have realised I have a lot of work to do!

Yoga with Adrienne YouTube vids. Follow one of her 30 day programmes (or several).

Every time you have to put your shoes on, sit on the floor to do it. Every time. It will be hard at first but will get easier!

Yoga with Uliana has several 5-15 minute standing stretch videos. These are great for mobilising at the start of the day without too much loss of sleep. No special clothes required, just enough space to stand in.

For functional strength and mobility Upright Health is an interesting youtuber and covers things like getting up/ down to the floor, posture and how to build/ keep a natural range of movements.

I'm in my 40s and one of my long term life goals is to keep sittinv on floors and getting up. I've known a lot of people struggle by late 40s and it's not a good starting point for later life if it can be avoided.
