Where to stay for the night in Manchester?

My friend and I are going to Manchester in April for the marathon, and I'm just having a look at places to stay.

I am overwhelmed by the number of options and was wondering whether I could pick people's brains here on where might be good.

So far, I've looked at Premier Inn and Hotel Ibis which are similar prices for a night's stay in a twin room. If you know of separate single room options then that is welcome too!

Thank you in advance.

Ibis styles. Portland Street! Cheap, stylish and very cheerful! If it's still there.. they change all the time

Whay are you looking for?

Thanks for your reply @Par91 .

Ideally, just somewhere with a comfy bed and breakfast, not too far from the start line, which I believe is Old Trafford, or from a Metro station.

We will be arriving in the afternoon sometime on a Saturday, so not really much time to look around Manchester, but near places to eat would be nice.

Motel One - any of them! They're usually reasonably priced.

Thanks, I'm having a look at these at the moment.

Seconded: this was great and I loved the rain theme (very apt when I was there one December).

Motel one are great and generally the cheapest option (or slightly more than PI/travelodge but SO much nicer).

Premier inn old Trafford.

JanuaryBluehoo · 02/01/2023 21:48

Apparently Salford is the place now?

FannyFifer · 02/01/2023 21:50

We usually stay around Salford/media city, stayed at premier inn the last time, it's near old Trafford.

xsquared · 02/01/2023 22:02

When did Salford become the in place? Someone I am close to used to work at Salford University and they didn't have a good word to say about the place!

Glad to hear more people saying that's good to stay in.

I stayed at the Motel One near the train station a few months ago and was so impressed with the quality for the price.
