Forgot smoked salmon out

I have ADHD and it's not the first time I've forgotten to put food away. It's been out for 12 hours. It was expensive. The package is still cold to touch, I don't have the heating on.

I'm very angry at myself, I've thrown away money before by forgetting things like milk in my bag and my lunch loves to sit out on the counter top while I go to work for the day (then have to buy food 🙄). I once even managed to switch my fridge off when I went away for a weekend, I sat and cried for that one.

So...would I be stupid to eat it?

I would probably eat it myself but not serve it to guests. Don’t know if that helps!

hairymuffet · 02/01/2023 19:39

I'm sure it will be fine, especially as you don't have the heating on

AnyRandomName · 02/01/2023 19:40

I'd eat it.

Sniff and then nibble, I'm sure it'll be fine. It's smoked, so cured, it should be ok in a fairly cool room

It's probably fine to eat. I wouldn't put it back in the fridge though just incase. If it smells ok I'd eat the whole packet. But I love smoked salmon and wouldn't waste it!

Biscuitandacuppa · 02/01/2023 19:41

It’s been smoked, which is a preservative, so give it the sniff test and see if it’s ok. If it’s been in a cold kitchen with no heating it’s probably fine.

Limer · 02/01/2023 19:42

Eat it, I would.

sunshineandshowers40 · 02/01/2023 19:42

Love smoked salmon so I would give it a sniff then eat the lot!

RewildingAmbridge · 02/01/2023 19:43

I'd eat it

HelterSkelter224 · 02/01/2023 19:43

I'd eat it after a wee sniff but then I do that with most food lol

Galarunner · 02/01/2023 19:44

I'm not convinced our house is much warmer than the fridge over night!

Northernlurker · 02/01/2023 19:44

It's really fine. It's a cured product in a lowish temp room. Just eat it asap.

Bigdamnheroes · 02/01/2023 19:45

Smell it. Its fish, you'll soon know if its off.

MadMadMadamMim · 02/01/2023 19:56

It's been smoked, so should be fine to eat.

NotAnotherBathBomb · 02/01/2023 20:25

Thank you all. It smells fine, I'm relieved that you've said you'd do the same. I'll have it for breakfast in the morning, fingers crossed!

stick it in the freezer for one hour to nuke the bugs.

RebeccaCloud9 · 02/01/2023 20:29

The whole purpose of smoking fish is to preserve it without a fridge!
