Can't you find anything from googling his name? I'd have thought there would be an obituary notice?

KendrickLamaze · 02/01/2023 16:43

Sorry - assumed it's a he. Hope that's ok

SO224350 · 02/01/2023 16:44

I think it's too soon to go on to the genealogy sites. Have you tried obituary in local paper?

User1785498 · 02/01/2023 16:46

I would Google his name as there may be a notice from a funeral home about the service or whatever

ToffeeNotCoffee · 02/01/2023 16:49

Search to see if there was a will and/or probate. Not everyone writes a will. Not all estates have probate. However, click this link or just put the address in your internet search bar:

www.gov.uk/search-will-probate

rainbowandglitter · 02/01/2023 16:52

Op says fiancee so is talking about a woman. Yes I'd google or check Facebook.

Lots of estates dont go through probate, and even if they do, it can take months or even years. OP just google 'get a copy death certificate' and go to the gov.uk site.

stbrandonsboat · 02/01/2023 16:57

You can't, all you can do is search their name and something might come up. My mother's death only showed on a search of her name because solicitors put up a notice of her death as she died without a Will.

User1785498 · 02/01/2023 17:01

If it was maybe November, Funeral home is best bet as Probate wouldn't have happened yet, also not so many have obituaries in paper now, it may go in London Gazette but it's probably a bit early for that

User1785498 · 02/01/2023 17:06

Good idea as CocoLux says, try getting a death certificate

good96 · 02/01/2023 17:08

Too soon for those records. Records online are currently 1837-2006.
Other posters are accurate. Google the name or search it on FB and see what comes up. I am sure you would have been notified though by now?

Goldenboysmum · 02/01/2023 17:09

OP, your other post says you got a letter telling you he had died, cant you ask the person who told you for more information?

Wilff · 02/01/2023 17:14

Excellent question.
It was from (without wishing to get in trouble for quoting company name) a national well known established reputable Assurance company, who will be forwarding the paperwork next week.

Hence the uncomfortable hiatus of not knowing for certain?!

You've had nothing to do with each other for thirty odd years, why would you be receiving official paperwork regarding the deceased ?

Ok, I was thinking a personal letter, sorry

Also, your other post says he was in France, was he still there when he died?

My son died in Australia, and only has an Australian death certificate, I'm not even sure if there's anything here if someone wanted to look, I've never thought about it

NewBootsAndRanty · 02/01/2023 17:20

Do you know where they died? The local register office should have a copy.

Wilff · 02/01/2023 17:26

No specific information of any kind..
Only the letter relating to a pension in trust for me.
Small hope that perhaps its a fake?

ToffeeNotCoffee · 02/01/2023 18:27

How did the Assurance company have your current up to date address ?

Wilff · 05/01/2023 19:12

That's a good question...we can't figure that out ? Electrol Role perhaps 🤔
