Has anyone spotted an OP in real life?

I have, but only once. She had changed bits of info here and there but it was quite obvious as she'd just told me about it and used the same phrases.

I almost hit the reply button but I didn't want to out myself.

Yes. It was something that had happened the day before and I was there. I had already previously recongised the poster though from other posts.

The story she posted about was embellished for effect, it wasn't as dramatic in real life.

TigerDroveAgain · 01/01/2023 23:32

Yes: I’m a lawyer and I recognised a client on here - not just the situation but her user name was a variation of her real name. she’d not liked the advice I’d given her and was seeking second opinions. Everyone backed up what she’d already been told. I knew I was correct but it was quite pleasing!

musicalfrog · 01/01/2023 23:33

Yes I saw you only yesterday.

EL8888 · 01/01/2023 23:36

Yep. A friends wife and put some relatively outing things. Her post was very innocuous and non-controversial. Just debating what to name their youngest child

Ha! Good one

Yes she posted the same thing on here and in Facebook. The babe fitted and then I searched her posts and yep it’s her. Didn’t say anything though.

IceColdBeer7 · 01/01/2023 23:40

I've also spotted a friend's secret blog posts that she doesn't talk about in RL and I find them quite amusing. I'm loving the way she's trying to portray themselves as a family to those that don't know them.

Yes. She posts various things that have happened but unsurprisingly misses out or changes important points that would not go in her favour. 🙄

Mmmmdanone · 01/01/2023 23:47

Yes. She has some very specific issues which I recognised.

MzLucky · 01/01/2023 23:54

A while ago I was in the hairdressers. I was reading mn on my phone and this other client must have been able to see in the mirror.

When the other woman was finished and was leaving she came up to me and said "it's all batshit isn't it " then left.

It was completely random. I was new to mn then and felt like I had just met someone famous Grin

MzLucky · 01/01/2023 23:57

I've also noticed a few famous people on here. I definitely think the writer of a big show is on here as the scripts are basically mumsnet threads.

gawditswindy · 02/01/2023 00:03

Motherland. 😂😂

Of course you have 🙄

DrMadelineMaxwell · 02/01/2023 00:07

Yes. I asked a colleague whether she was on here as I'd spotted her first on the TES community (when it still existed) and then on here. She'd also spotted me!

A friend is also on here, but we send each other links to threads all the time, so that's no surprise.

MzLucky · 02/01/2023 00:14

@gawditswindy bingo 😂

@FuchsAndMöhr don't know what the arse response to me is all about. The reason I know is because they post something on Twitter then the exact same word for word post on her. Anywhoo hope 2023 brings you joy and happiness 🎊🎉🤪

PleaseCleanTheWholeToilet · 02/01/2023 00:19

I dont know anyone in ‘real life’ who is on / looks at mumsnet

RunLolaRun102 · 02/01/2023 00:23

Yes several times. Both women only put half the story on threads.

FleasNavidad · 02/01/2023 00:27

Yes I spotted an old friend.

mince3point14159265 · 02/01/2023 00:27

Yes, but I wouldn't say anything irl as she seems to use this as her safe space. She is an acquaintance rather than a friend, but her posts do make want to reach out to make sure she's ok.

NewYearNora · 02/01/2023 08:54

I spotted a neighbour, someone I don't know particularly well, who had done a lengthy post about a missing pet on here and then the same post in a local Facebook forum.

Since then, I am careful to change my username at least once a month; even if I do get recognised, they won't get more than a handful of posts from me.

PAFMO · 02/01/2023 08:56

Yes. An acquaintance whose real love life is not nearly as exciting as her MN descriptions.
I also worked with someone I discovered through chatting was a Mouldie.

Zonder · 02/01/2023 09:00

Yes. I've spotted one friend from her posting similar things on here to her own Facebook. And another friend told me about a thread she started which then meant I knew her username.

Whatineed · 02/01/2023 09:11

FuchsAndMöhr · 02/01/2023 00:05

Graham Linehan is definitely on here from time to time!

I think Sara Cox is on here as she sometimes references things from threads.

LlynTegid · 02/01/2023 09:17

I spotted someone who works for MN once on London Underground.
