How do you think of the year?

Is this just me but how do you think of and visualise a year?

I just had a discussion with MIL, FIL and DH and they have all looked at me like I am a bit daft! They don't visualise anything.

I think of the seasons in blocks and then they sort of form a circle round from January to December.

Anyone else?

I see it as a semi circle - the left side. So it runs from Jan at the top to Dec at the bottom

Iwritethissittinginthekitchensink · 01/01/2023 22:48

I see it like a timeline with the current month in front of me, future months to the right and past to the left.

I visualise everything! I take verbal messages in much better if I doodle something at the same time.

Katiepants27 · 01/01/2023 22:48

You mustbe synesthetic OP. I do it too.

HeidiWhole · 01/01/2023 22:49

As a literal timeline running (oddly) right to left.

caramac04 · 01/01/2023 22:51

A long line Jan to Decthen a quick scoot round to Jan again

roselune · 01/01/2023 22:53

A circle definitely, a bit like a clock face.

beccahamlet · 01/01/2023 22:53

It's like a carpet stretching out in front of me. The days, weeks and months are gently delineated. The carpet curls upwards a bit at the end of the year. The seasons are subtlety shaded.

Isn't synaesthesia about sensing things as tastes/colours, rather than visualisation?

BangingOn · 01/01/2023 22:56

Also a circle, with the months running as rectangular sections around the shape. Oddly, the months aren’t equally weighted and September to December are the longest months of the year in this visual.

IveHadEnoughNowFfs · 01/01/2023 22:56

Oh definitely by season for me.

it’s really weird because I never realised not everyone does it until very recently.

So it’s in blocks of:
Winter = dec-jan-feb
Spring = march-April-may
Summer = june-july-august
Autumn = sept-oct-nov

When I think of upcoming events or birthdays and so on, I visualise the season and the probable weather.

HangerLaneGyratorySystem · 01/01/2023 22:56

I see everything in terms of a timeline. Only discovered not everyone did this a couple of years ago. DD19 has no “minds eye” and doesn’t see things in dreams only feelings. I’m sure there’s a name for the timeline thing 🤔

BulbasaurusRex · 01/01/2023 22:57

In calendar/diary type blocks lying in front of me, straight line. No colours but some days/weeks/months are darker than others. August is darkest. Must be something to do with school diaries?

BCBird · 01/01/2023 22:57

I don't visualise it at all.

JaneJeffer · 01/01/2023 22:58

A line from left to right

thefiddlerselbow · 01/01/2023 22:59

There was a brilliant thread about this some time ago.

I see it as a circle with September top right and Dec at the bottom and going all the way around to August. It's blocked into seasons and I also associate the colours of the seasons.

But when I visualise weeks they are straight lines - horizontal that meet Saturday and Sunday and fold back the other way. But I can only visualise two weeks like this. The weekend days are wider.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 01/01/2023 23:01

I see it going up hill to June, a plateau for the summer, then down the hill from October.

It's more about light and shade for me though. December is camera-flash bright white.

(I do also have synaesthesia which I love)

Nowthatlovehasperished · 01/01/2023 23:02

Same as you Op.

TerraNostra · 01/01/2023 23:03

I see a long ladder of all 52 weeks stretching out straight in front of me (definitely not left to right, how weird !) with darker colours for winter and lighter for summer. I don’t move up the ladder, if you see what I mean, so it always starts with January no matter where we are in the year. I guess I see a sort of highlight at the current day/month.

TokyoSushi · 01/01/2023 23:06

Like a line, but stretching out in front of me like I'm standing at the start of a race.

chillibop · 01/01/2023 23:06

Like a circle. Darker in colour for the winter months. With a little gap between dec and Jan and then scoots round again

Thethingswedoforlove · 01/01/2023 23:08

@CharlotteStreetW1 i see it just as you do!!

meow1989 · 01/01/2023 23:08

Oh this drives me insane because I can see it until I try to and then it's like it's just in my peripheral vision but I can't quite make it out.

I THINK I see days of the week a bit like an outlook calendar - rectangles with the weekend a bit more prominent and it's kind of an aged parchment colour.

The months, argh, I can see/ not see it now- so there's kind of soft lighting for the winter months and slightly different colours? December was kind of cost firelight colour and January is more of a stark icy white/blue?

The year as a whole I think it's similar to the week but different colours and associated images, usually of nature or outside scenes.

Thanks op, now I have a melty brain Angry

Cucumberbund · 01/01/2023 23:10

This is how I see the year and the week.
Including a sliding sensation when I think of the months and a feeling of standing on the top edge of the days and looking down when I think of the day of the week that we're on.

How do you think of the year?
ToddlerTerror · 01/01/2023 23:11

I see it as a table, 4 months wide and 3 months down.
So Jan - April on the first row, May - Aug on the second and Sep - Dec on the third. All the days and weeks shown like you would in a year to view page. I feel like it was a poster I saw as a child and it has just stuck in my head like that.

thecrispfiend · 01/01/2023 23:13

In 2 columns but weirdly they aren't equal .. like this:

January September
February October
March November
April December
May
June
July
August
