Sun weekend away with teen DD

Any recommendations for a long weekend just me and teen DD?

I had in mind a city break, but she wants a beach break, and it’s a treat for her, so fine - but I’m unsure where best to go for a few days sun, somewhere guaranteed sun late April / early May / Sept?

Malaga. City & Beach. Loads to see and do, brilliant shopping but also historical.

Majorca, Minorca or Ibiza might suit. 2 hours flight. Or the Algarve, or any of the Spanish coasts (not Northern Spain though).

The Canary Islands are guaranteed sunshine but longer flight time (4/4.5 hours) and therefore might not be suitable for a long weekend.

Dubrovnik in September and stay at a hotel at Lapad. It's about 4km outside the main city but bus every 10 minutes so you get beach resort and city attractions.

Alicante. Fantastic beach within a 10 min walk of the old town. Lovely place.

Thank you, all these sound good!

Cascais outside Lisbon would be fabulous

liveforsummer · 13/01/2023 17:32

You're not going to get guaranteed sunshine at that time of year anywhere with a short enough flight for a weeks. Pick somewhere that has other attractions so it wouldn't be the end of the world if it rained or was too cold to sit around on the beach

Probably one of the Canary Islands. Though I have found the south of France warm enough in September.

I would suggest avoiding Turkey at all costs. I have heard too many accounts of sleazy men, from families with teenage daughters who have had holidays there.

FluffyYucca · 13/01/2023 17:35

Lisbon or Barcelona would get you the option of city + beach

I've been to turkey twice recently with teenage dd and had no issues at all.

My colleague did Cornwall with them out of season and had a great time surfing.

doadeer · 13/01/2023 19:02

Barcelona has both, lots to do and see

ModerationInEverything · 13/01/2023 19:02

Barcelona is really good fun. Beach and city. Good transport. Lovely people.

Roselilly36 · 13/01/2023 19:13

As a PP said Alicante city is fab, lovely restaurants, shopping, marina & beach.

LizzieBrooks · 13/01/2023 19:18

I agree with the Cascais. Lovely coastal town, great food, lovely walks (don’t miss a swim by the lighthouse!) and a short train ride to Lisbon.

Turkey is fine imo but I don't think I'd go there for a weekend given the flight time

RockGirl · 13/01/2023 20:59

Malaga is a good idea but you could go further south and spend the weekend in Gibraltar. Pretty much guaranteed sun.

rookiemere · 13/01/2023 21:02

Based on current temperatures and last years Sep/Oct temperatures I would say most of Europe will be plenty hot enough for OP and her DD.

Q1w2e3 · 13/01/2023 21:13

Valencia - best place ever.

GoodVibesHere · 13/01/2023 22:22

Barcelona as it's a fantastic city with a beach
