Escape rooms

Anyone been to one and are they worth it? Looking for something to do tomorrow due to an unexpected day off. DH wants to go as a family, but that includes DD (two year old) if we aren't able to leave her with a relative as planned. I think it's madness to take her along for obvious reasons.

Some will have an age limit due to the content. I wouldn't call it a suitable activity for a 2 year old. Go swimming or something.

They are brilliant. I did one pre children. I definitely wouldn’t take my two year old to one. They wouldn’t enjoy it and they would distract you…I doubt they would even be allowed in.

Sparklingbrook · 01/01/2023 20:31

I’ve done a few. There were five of us on a team-all adults.
Escape Rooms do vary- some are linear where you have to solve each clue to get the next, some you have to break off and individually solve clues.
Im not sure a two year old would be allowed in TBH but it would be a bit of a hindrance to have one around.

Woahtherehoney · 01/01/2023 20:32

I’ve been to many and they’re definitely not suitable for a 2 year old I’m afraid (unless they do family friendly ones or something)

NextPrimeMinister · 01/01/2023 20:32

They'd likely want to touch all the props, and one adult would have to supervise so much They'd not join in the game, so a waste of money.

Barbequebeans64 · 01/01/2023 20:32

Definitely not toddler friendly but oh so much fun! Also they book up early if they're good so I don't know if you'd get to do one tomorrow

NuffSaidSam · 01/01/2023 20:32

If it's your sort of thing they're really, really good fun.

You absolutely cannot take a 2 year old though.

Ricardothesnowman · 01/01/2023 20:34

Not suitable for 2 year olds, they will be very bored, and round here, booked days in advance, so no chance of going tomorrow.
I've just been looking and the next available in most of the ones round here is Wednesday or next weekend. There are the odd few slots on Tuesday but nothing tomorrow.

Saying that, they are brilliant fun, although rather expensive

Goinggoinggone1 · 01/01/2023 20:34

There's no age restrictions on the website, but I agree it wouldn't be suitable as she is very active and it'd be hard to focus. DH has it in his head now and can't let it go 🙄

It's a great family activity but only with older children - most escape rooms have a minimum age of 12, some 10. Definitely not suitable for a 2 year old, sorry (some are too scary for those under 16 even).

Goinggoinggone1 · 01/01/2023 20:36

Thanks for the replies. I will try and convince him to go another time when we have a reliable babysitter!

Did one recently. It's set up as a corridor with each room a different challenge inside. Very fun and definitely worth doing but you'd be very limited in the rooms you could go into with a 2 Yr old. I'd save it for when she's able to be minded so you can get the full experience of it.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 27/01/2023 07:15

I worked in one and our limit was 12 years old. Some would be scary for a toddler and probably not safe. You could always phone/email to ask but it wouldn’t be fun trying to supervise a child and do the games.
