Adult Swimming Lessons

I can swim, but not any distance. Probably about a length! And I have never been able to tread water.

I would like to be able to swim as a way of getting regular exercise. There's a nice private pool 5 mins from my home. I don't exercise at all at the moment, and I thought swimming a few times per week might be a good way to get my fitness up a little, before I add in the gym or running.

So, has anyone taken adult lessons? Were they a success, or not? If they were, how many did you take? And how much of a difference has it made for you?

Thanks.

I was like you, could swim but not very far. About 15 years ago I took adult lessons and I ended up getting my 3000m badge (no not a typo!). They were amazing for me, gave me confidence in the water, helped me with stroke technique and taught me other skills such as treading water properly and tumble turns. I feel much more confident when I go in the water with my kids now, best thing I ever did.

I haven't yet, but am planning to. I learned to swim as a child but want to improve my technique. A friend of mine had some last year and highly recommended it.

I did for about a year. Then stopped during COVID. I did get better and my confidence was boosted.
