Missing Uni deadline

DD has applied to Leeds Arts and was convinced she had to submit portfolio by January 12th. She came to submit it today and said that the deadline was actually the beginning of December. Is there any chance they will still accept her application? I think actual final deadline for all applicants is 23rd January.

I’m feeling cross with her half-arsedness over this! Grateful for any advice…

I think you should accept the failed application with a good grace, and double check dates for any other applications. A day or two late you could ask, but almost a month is wasting your time and theirs.

And perhaps check whether this does not rule out an application next December should no other option be taken up and waiting a year be something your DD decides on.

Thanks for replying.

Where did 12th January even come from? So frustrating!

It hasn’t been withdrawn on UCAS website. Still pending but that could be because they are closed for holidays?

It’s worth asking/submitting still. Whether they look at it or not will probably depend on number of applicants who made the deadline.

If she does end up taking a gap year has she seen if your local college does an arts foundation course? It’s free for school leavers and a lot of art courses at university like applicants to have done this before doing a degree. A colleague of mine, her Dd went to Leeds Arts and took a year out to do the foundation course before going to Leeds.

Some courses, like medicine you do have to apply for before the UCAS deadline. Sounds like this is one of those courses.

It's worth her contacting them to check but she definitely needs to make other plans. Whether that's going somewhere else or working for a year whilst she resubmits.

That seems confusing given that the final deadline is 25 Jan - do applicants get individual deadlines depending on when they submit their UCAS application (e.g. a month from date of original application or something)? I would definitely suggest that she contact admissions and just be very very sorry for the misunderstanding etc. No idea how competitive the course/uni is, but given that they appear to still be anticipating accepting applications and reviewing portfolios until 25 Jan they might be willing to be flexible...

Thank you for the replies.

They apply and then get a given amount of time to submit a portfolio (think 4 weeks from application but varies from place to place) so different applicants will get different deadlines.

They re-open on Tuesday so she will have to give it a shot then. Not great evidence of being able to work to deadlines though!!! 😂

Contact the uni and ask them. Always worth doing.
