Call back from police for 999 I didn't make

Got woken up at 7:15 from call from police saying I'd dialled 999 4 mins earlier and did I need assistance? Mobile was on bedside table. DD was playing in her room. I usually hear her when she's by me or going for my phone. There was a call to 999 on my call history but I have no idea how. Anyone else got experience of this?

If there is no one else in your house then your daughter must have dialled. The alternative is that you did. It’s an odd mystery to bring in 2023!

SnowAndIceLobelia · 01/01/2023 07:57

My father had this. He had sat on his phone and it auto dialled to emergency. He was most embarrassed and apologetic!!

In your case if you did not roll on your phone in your sleep them it might have been touched or bumped by your DD?

Roselilly36 · 01/01/2023 07:59

My son called 999 when he was about 3, I was putting the baby in his cot upstairs. I had a call back, asking if everything was OK too. I expect your DD called them.

It'll be your kid. They like to do that.

DD's ninja skills must have been in full force - didn't hear her by me at all. I've asked if she touched my phone and she said no, but that's not to say she didn't.

Happened to me many years ago, in the days of landlines. Got woken up by the police actually knocking on my front door to check all was ok.

Surely enough the call had been made but there was nobody else in the house except me. Assumed I had done it in my sleep (handset next to bed). Very confusing Confused

My phone dials 999 if you press the side button three times in quick succession- could this have happened by accident

RockAndRollerskate · 01/01/2023 09:03

Just check your call history? It’s hardly a massive mystery!

Courgettecity · 01/01/2023 09:05

She has, it's there, she didn't dial, all said in the OP

Catterpillarwithconverse · 01/01/2023 09:07

Sleep dialled it

roseretrox · 01/01/2023 09:07

It’s not a mystery, you have 2 valid suspects here. Your version of events is unreliable because you were asleep - there is a chance you did so on accident but cannot remember as you were in deep sleep. Your child is an unreliable source of information because they’re a child and they don’t understand the gravity of what they do/press. For example, on my phone there’s a shortcut on the Lock Screen to dial emergency services. It’s possible you/she pressed random things and a call was made through that shortcut. Whoever made the call was clearly silent or unable to speak coherently if the police called back, which fits with either sleepy you or your child calling

You're right it isn't.

If you read the OP it's all in there Wink

OP - any chance as your dd picked it up she pressed the side bottom in succession? I've heard that can auto dial emergency services.

MeJane · 01/01/2023 09:09

Is it paired to an ipad or anything? Mine is and I can make or answer calls from the ipad as long as it's near-ish my phone.

OppositeNumber · 01/01/2023 09:17

I had this years ago with a landline. Two police at my door asking to come in and check everything was OK. I was highly sceptical but they had full uniform and badges so let them in. Turns out my cat had knocked the phone off the cradle and (button) dialled! Must have been reporting me for not enough kibble 😁

What is a mystery is why you didn’t read the ops posts before posting

sanityisamyth · 01/01/2023 09:21

Have you got a smart watch connected to your phone? Was the emergency call button pressed on that?

Roarsomemore · 01/01/2023 09:25

I changed my phone pin last night (when DD in bed) because she'd seen me type it and was able to get into my phone. Talking to my older DS this morning (he was asleep at time of call and old enough to know never to call 999 unless needed) DD had told him my pin was different. She must have been potching with my phone this morning. Without me hearing her 15 cm away and put the phone back on the bedside table where it should be. Ninja skills...

Locked screen has an emergency call button.
