Happy New Year mumsnetters!

So, had a weird encounter earlier. We're away in our static caravan, I am full of the cold and was feeling pretty miserable so made my apologies to DH and DC and took myself off to bed at 8pm.

I fell into a fitful sleep and the next thing I remember is my DH shouting straight into my ear ALEX!!

I shot out of bed and ran into the living room where my DH and DC were quietly watching tv...

It was very disconcerting, it was clearly my DH's voice that had shouted at me! To scared to go back to bed I've been up since, and ended up having a few wines to calm my nerves so all in all the 'experience' has done me a favour as was up for the bells with my family. If it was a genuine spooky encounter they gave me a right boot up the bum, haha.

Not the first experience I've had in this static. One night the tv in the bedroom turned itself on in the early hours absolutely blaring. A few months ago we also had random knocks on an internal wall that we couldn't figure out.

Anyone else had any weird encounters lately?

Not lately but I had a very similar experience some years ago, when I woke up the ear that was shouted in was actually ringing. So odd! Happy new year.

Was just googling and apparently it's quite common, if disconcerting!

When pregnant with my son I had a dream that the smoke alarm went off. It was so so loud, i woke up startled and the sound instantly stopped as i woke up. DH was awake in next room (flat) and it had definitely not gone off. It was clearly just a dream but I felt shocked that my brain could create such a bloody loud noise!

The shouting was probably a type of hypnagogic hallucination, they can happen when your ill.

bit weird about the other stuff though!

Just ill

I had some mental dreams when pregnant and soon after my son was born. Our brains are amazing!

Yeah, I said that to my DH when I was recounting the experience, once DC went to bed. I'm probably a bit feverish.

The night after the tv switched itself on I googled about that too, and apparently it can happen if the batteries in the remote are going flat (they are still working now though). No idea yet about the knocking noises yet though! If it is spooky going on, we'll just have to share, this is my happy place Smile

Oooh OP
I often hear my name being called
I wake up and noone called me.
Its a very weird feeling

Chuckle94 · 01/01/2023 01:23

I do remember once that I was sleeping and I heard the door bell, it woke me up and i went downstairs and nobody was there. No one else in the house heard it either

NewNameForXmas · 01/01/2023 01:25

I quite often hear a loud noise when dozing. Wakes me up with a start!

QueenSmartypants · 01/01/2023 01:28

I've had dreams like that. Usually when not sleeping well, ends up being like a lucid dream. Not surprised it's happened when you're unwell, hope you feel better soon!

This reminds me of a dream I had that I had a carbon monoxide leak and the alarm had gone off, I ran downstairs and was standing in front of the boiler when I realised that the alarm wasn't going off and I'd dreamt it all!

I had a couple of fever dreams when I recently had flu, the TV was on and I was dozing, and I was answering the characters on the TV as I thought it was someone in my room, and the dog barked when someone knocked the door and I kept dreaming someone shouting "No!No!No!" In time with her barking, our brains do strange things when we've got a fever!

I love threads like these though, and reading about spooky goings on!

I had this happen in my old house. Woke up to what I can only describe as the sound of a train passing right by head. When I got up the next morning DDs teddy which was in her yet-unused "big cot" was lying in the hall, in the place where an opened pack of nappies were, and the nappies were at the bottom of the stairs.

95% of me was sure I must have been sleepwalking at some point in the night but that other 5% makes me grateful I don't live there anymore 😂

BashfulClam · 01/01/2023 02:51

I get auditory hallucinations often when I’m drifting off or they wake me up and seem so real.

PennyPearl · 01/01/2023 02:56

I've already posted this on the unexplained but the most recent spooky thing was I could hear my 2 year old son laughing at 4am so I went in to check on him and he was sat up and as I got to the cot he sort of moved his head around the room as if he was watching someone leave and when he's head reached the door he waved "bye-bye".

The only other spooky experience I can think of was years ago DH and I was walking up some stairs together in Spain and we hear some footsteps approaching fast behind up so we both moved out of the way without saying anything to let them past but there was no one there, spooky because we both heard them.

Love threads like these!

Another one I've thought of was when my son was 2 years old and we took him to the transport museum in York.

"Oh, mummy look, is that a Stephenson's Rocket?"

Why yes, my creepy toddler it is!

How the heck he knew that we'll never know.

@Alex Drake wow! He's been here before for sure

Whatafielddayfortheheat · 01/01/2023 09:24

We went to a very old house that had been turned into a museum. It was very small, in a rural area, and we were the only guests on the whole site (I won't say where as it's outing but in this particular locality that's not unusual. It was covid so you had to process through the house in a certain route, no going back. My young DS and my DH finished early and went out to the back garden where there was a nature trail. I kept walking through the house with my Dad.

When Dad and I got to the end of the house part, I said to him 'let's go and find (DS)' and my Dad said 'oh here he comes' and quickly moved out of the way as if DS was running up behind him. He was extremely shocked when DS wasn't there. He said he distinctly heard a child running up behind him as if to hug him or whatever. Dad is very no nonsense and has all his faculties by the way!

Yes it was! I didn't describe it very well but my Dad literally whipped round sideways with his hands outstretched at child level, as my DS often likes to grab his hands (cuddle him). It was very striking to see that, he clearly had very good reason to believe DS was behind him but there was no one there or indeed anywhere nearby. Odd.
