Fireworks - when do you have yours?

I live in an urban area and all I've heard since about 7 are fireworks going off. Why? Are they celebrating different timezones? At midnight it be massive but I don't get who is lighting them earlier. If this is you can you enlighten me? It's MASSIVE rockets so not just garden ones for the kids.

Same in SE London. I assume it’s for people with younger DC who will be in bed by midnight? But don’t know really, we’re not setting any off.

Do people really do this? Surely DC are either too young to understand or old enough to stay up/be woken at the appropriate time?!?
