Have had a horrible virus since 20th December .Tickly cough, wheezing and productive mucus with brown / red phlegm. Am seeing Dr on the 3rd January. Am asking if anyone else has had these symptoms..am so worried 😟

I reckon the brown/red phlegm is from a torn esophagus. It happened to me after I had bronchitis.

Wfhandbored · 31/12/2022 20:36

DP had exactly the same, it was irritation from coughing violently for weeks on end that turned into a chest infection - almost through his anti biotics now and the bloody phlegm etc has all but stopped

ColinRobinsonsfamiliar · 31/12/2022 20:39

Oh god yes! Mine has just gone after nearly 5 weeks.
Awful.
I am never ill so didn’t know what to do with myself. I honestly couldn’t shift the phlegmy cough, I have also had aching chest and ribs from the coughing.
Anyway it has gone.
It kind of got better in time.
Sympathies, it does get better.

Argh same here, it's a horrid virus. 6 out of 7 of us have jt and can't budge it. Get checked just to be sure

ScarlettDarling · 31/12/2022 20:45

Bloody phlegm needs to be checked as a matter of urgency. It was a sign I had pneumonia.. Don’t know if I’d leave it another three days to see a doc, op. Could you try a walk in centre tomorrow?
Try not to be scared though. Most likely you just need a course of antibiotics.

WaddleAway · 31/12/2022 20:48

Yeah DH has had it, he’s now on antibiotics for pneumonia. You need to see a Dr before the 3rd Jan really. Get yourself to your local urgent care centre. No need to be scared, just get seen and you can be treated.

Thank you for all your replies..have been so worried 😟 Am a a very periodic smoker…have been through every scenario ! Am seeing DR on the third so hopefully a Chest X-ray will be requested.

I doubt you need an X-ray, just a course of antibiotics.

Yes. I’ve had this since Christmas Eve. I feel a lot better in myself today but this cough is horrendous, and hurts 😣

I put in a call from doctor on Boxing Day, as I’m asthmatic and the blood scared me, but nobody has returned my call yet. What I’m coughing up is still very mucky but at least it’s more productive now.

My dil and DGC have had it since Boxing Day (I didn’t see them over Christmas. I told them to stay away). Now DD and her DP have gone down with it too
