Boxshibe · 31/12/2022 19:21

I've got really bad constipation. Not gone for nearly a week. I've been taking molaxone twice a day and 4 times today and still nothing . Been drinking black coffee and orange juice .
I'm awaiting a colonoscopy some time in January but need some relief now
Anyone got any homemade recipes ?

if a supermarket is still open near you, get glycerin suppositories. You’ll go in minutes

MaryQueenOfSwots · 31/12/2022 19:26

Definitely suppositories. Also try pooing on newspapers/old towel on the bathroom floor. The squatting position helps. Good luck!

FuppinNora · 31/12/2022 19:27

When sitting on toilet, have a step stool or something similar height to put you into squashing position.

Weetabix should have you going fairly quickly also

Porridge and a power walk

FuppinNora · 31/12/2022 19:29

If you can also squat on floor with trousers up for awhile to help move it along

Prunes
Oranges

All you need is oil ! Any food type of oil especially coconut oil, you can take a good few tablespoons now, wait an hour then another couple if nothing has happened. But it will !

Jellycats4life · 31/12/2022 19:37

When things are bad there’s really no point putting anything else in at the mouth end, you need to sort out the blockage at the bottom. Suppository it is!

Tamarindtree · 31/12/2022 19:37

Once you have sorted this out, start drinking a glass of prune juice every morning to help keep you regular.

Glycerine suppositories. Works in 5 minutes.

Bananadramallamas · 31/12/2022 19:46

Eat a whole bag of any sugar free sweets. Works a treat. 😜

A fag? 😆

Liquorice does for me.

1000yellowdaisies · 31/12/2022 19:49

Drink a cup of very hot water (boiled from the kettle and then drink it as soon as you can). That usually helps me.

SallyWD · 31/12/2022 19:49

Start the day with a couple of pieces of fibrous fruit (aplles, pear etc) and a big bowl of All Bran. Drink loads of water throughout the day and eat fibrous food (wholemeal bread, pulses etc).

Boxshibe · 31/12/2022 19:50

Thanks. I'll buy some suppositories on Monday. I'm under investigation as I've been having bowel pain and diarrhoea. Since the pain has stopped I've now got constipation.

Also try going for a walk.... if you've been fairly sedentary these last few days and eating junk as we have, your guts mightbe sluggish so try a little exercise

Rainallnight · 31/12/2022 19:52

You need a stimulant laxative as well. What you’re on is a stool softener. You need something like senna or sodium picosulfate to stimulate movement in the bowel too. Both available OTC in the chemist.

x2boys · 31/12/2022 19:57

Please don't !isten to peop!e list g food and drink solutions if you haven't been for a week the last th it you need is to add other things to your diet ,I have a child with chronic constipation, glycerine. Suppositories are quite weak too ,bisocodyl, are more effective although they can make you nauseous ,go to a pharmacist tomorrow ,there should be at least a duty one open they are the best to advise
