Pregnant cat, help!

Our cat is pregnant…she should be around 8 weeks so I wasn’t expecting kittens for another week.

I noticed some bleeding today and the internet says that’s not normal, but I called the vet and they said she’s probably just going into labor, and to call the emergency vet (an hour away) if she doesn’t seem okay.

She isn’t acting any differently really and is still eating etc…how much blood is normal and what should I do? I’m nervous, we love this cat to bits and she’s never had kittens before (she wasn’t even supposed to have these but she found a way outside) Here’s a picture of our sweet Olive.

how much blood?

It’s not gushing or anything but she’s got a bit on her tail and it’s just kind of…oozing I guess from her vagina. It might have a bit of mucusy stuff mixed in.

She doesn’t seem in any pain or distress but she doesn’t seem to be going into labor either

myself i would wait until tomorrow, if she seems fine eating and drinking etc, as moving her could distress her and make her worse, Can you feel the kittens kicking, if your worried try giving her cold water it tends to make them wriggle. if she does start bleeding more though then it may be time for the vets, keep a close eye, keep her warm and comfy. she's gorgeous btw

Thank you! She is such a love. She came to us as a stray last summer and we tried to resist keeping her since we already have too many pets, but…in the end we just couldn’t help it. She is the sweetest cat I’ve ever known.

I called the emergency vet and they said to give her some quiet time alone and that may help labor start, but to call back in a few hours if she’s still bleeding.

Fingers crossed! 😬😬😬

I don't know much if anything about cats and kittens. I only coo at them. I'm just here for the cute kitten pictures which I'm sure you know are mandatory.😂

aw hopefully she will start labour soon, such a lovely time even if loud. shes only a week or so early so should be fine.

and yes please we need pics of the kittens
(lots of them)

good luck

Thank you!

I called the emergency vet again and I get the feeling they think I’m being a bit precious, which I can admit I am!

She is still bleeding a bit after a few hours and I don’t really see any signs of labor but they said to just watch her…if she ends up in “a pool” of blood to bring her in.

So now we wait. I’ll keep you all posted!

Oh good luck to you and your kitty 🥰 hope all goes smoothly! I would also be feeling precious if it was my cat, hope you manage to get some sleep tonight!

do you have a box she can hide away in, i used a walkers type box with the hole in for her to climb in and out and some throw away pillows. obviously dont move her from where she is settled (unless in danger) one of mine had hers in the gas cupboard that was slightly open (not in one of the 5 places i made for her). i guess its a waiting game now, hard though when your worried. i hope you wake up to little cries.

Bit of bizarre update…I got her into the vet last night after more bleeding and it turns out she wasn’t pregnant. It was a pseudo pregnancy and the poor baby had a bad uterine infection, resulting in an emergency spay this morning.

My 2 youngest DC are pretty devastated as we were sure she was having kittens (and I’m a bit sad too tbh), and also upset that she came back from the vet and wants a lot of space rather than her usual cuddles.

I’m just grateful that we got her seen yesterday (I had to call six vets and travel half an hour in a blizzard) and that she will be okay.

Thanks for all the advice in the meantime.
