Early risers - please give me your tips!

I really wish I was an early riser. My alarm goes off at 6.15 and I can snooze it for over an hour most days and even then, I could sleep for another hour!

I'm usually asleep for 10.30 - 11.00 so it's not that I'm having too little sleep, I just can't get my arse out of bed in the morning.

I really want to instill a good routine in the mornings with a little time to at least do my hair and makeup so I don't look like a tramp in the office. Honestly, sometimes I look homeless. I feel like my days will be more productive if I've gotten ready properly and maybe even done a little work out (that would be the pinnacle).

Please give me your tips in order to get myself up in the morning!

You need to go to bed much earlier.

I need to be up by 4.45am/5am some mornings for work and need to definitely be in bed by 8.30pm the night before to do that (asleep just after 9pm hopefully).

From childhood always woken up early, kept that up through adulthood too.

So its a habit built in. Only need 6hrs sleep and I follow the 1.5hr sleep cycle pattern. So always wake up feeling refreshed as I'm waking up at the right part of the cycle.

As 6hrs is all I need then I go to sleep based on time I need to wake up e.g. if its 5am I'm in bed at 10.30 to win down to sleep to at 11pm.

So pick your hours of sleep you need and set regular times to go to sleep and wake up and stick to it until its a habit.

Also I never snooze once I'm up, im up. Infact most mornings I wake just before my alarm goes off cos its a habit.

You will get there but have to work at it

Get a toddler. Mine screams and throws things at me until I get up. Very effective.

Haha love this one! Mine is similar; my 3yo needs help in the morning, obviously, so I drag myself out of bed an hour before he wakes so I have time to shower, do my hair, eat breakfast and get dressed before he surfaces. My elder 2 can get themselves ready but the pampered prince insists on 1-1 contact most of the morning 😂❤️

Agree with the PPs who said move your alarm so you have to get out of bed to get to it.

Some brilliant and funny suggestions here, thank you all.

I think the running theme is that I'm maybe not getting enough sleep. I really thought 7 hours was supposed to be enough, so I always just thought I was a lazy cow.

I need some sort of evening so I'm going to aim to be asleep for 10pm.

No snooze button ever. All you're doing is training yourself to sleep through an alarm. The extra minutes of sleep don't do enough for you to justify it.

MuhMuh · 30/12/2022 22:12

7-9 hours is optimal, if 7 isn’t enough, aim for 9!

in bed by 9pm, asleep for 9:30.

also, do you need to get up so early to beautify? I roll out of bed at 7:30, and am ready to go by 8:20 with make up.

I don’t eat or drink though, just grab a bottle of water on the way out.

overthinkersanonnymus · 30/12/2022 22:34

@MuhMuh it's not so much to beautify, but to feel like I've not rushed out without giving a thought to what I look like or made myself feel ready for the day. Believe me, I look rough 😂

I leave for work at 7.50

@overthinkersanonnymus i had a thought come to me today, that it’s not just about the amount of sleep you have, but the quality.

are you getting rid of blue light at least 1 hour before bed?

not eating at least 2 hours before?

getting early morning sunlight?

cool bedroom, dark, and silent (or maybe white noise if you prefer - I do)

Buy a really good coffee machine so you look forward to getting out of bed for your 1st one

Even better have one by the bed 😊

AnyFucker · 31/12/2022 20:34

That is briliant

change your alarm tone so it matches your ring tone.

it works.

This works for me too.. Don't use nice tunes, they make you sleep more
