NYE ideas for single parents

This year is the first time ever it’s just me and my 9 year old daughter on NYE. We were having a family party but everyone got covid and flu!!

What can I do to make the evening special as we usually have quite a big shindig, dressing up and dancing etc and she’s disappointed….she’ll probably stay up till midnight but not that bothered about that.

It’s always just me and my kids we just stay in maybe a takeaway let them stay up till midnight and that’s it

Sorry you can’t have your normal party, op. This is what we are (probably) doing as a family of three:

  • favourite food - we just bought Ben and Jerry’s for afters.
  • play a game, whatever game you both like.
  • watch a good film/ series
  • bubble bath/ face packs etc…
  • get the music on and dance around the kitchen 🎶
  • bubbly for the adults 🍾

Board games, something nice to eat and drink (glittery j2os are a winner here), music and silly dancing and usually a movie to finish. I let them stay up late but not til midnight. I don't even stay up til midnight 🤣

I have been a single parent for many many years and have spent more NYE’s at home with DS.

we usually pick a good film to watch and have a nice dinner. I have some fizz (well I do that most nights so…) a couple of years ago I got a disco light which is really fun. I also light candles to make it feel festive. Far more fun than going out

Last year I had flu so didn't care much, this year he's going to his dads so I'll be alone. Teen is out as he's 18 fair enough m. Think I'll just go to bed early and make a lovely New Year's Day dinner 😀

I’m not a big fan of nye but a takeaway, movie, game to kill time until midnight sounds like a good plan. We are going out on NYD instead but I’m sure will do something along these lines.

Maybe get panto tickets (if there are any left!) or cinema tickets, so that you can go out for a special treat.

Film night at home with popcorn, chocolate and fizz (alcohol free!).

Craftybodger · 30/12/2022 16:35

We usually do a games night and favourite food.

This year we’re doing an online escape room and the food will be homemade pizza.

Me and just turned 11yo DD here. I've just realised it will he our 10th NYE just us two 😁

We have been to M&S for nibbles, are playing charades (did it on Christmas day and had ourselves in stitches how rubbish we both were) Little bit of a kitchen disco and we will pick out what we are watching in the morning.

N.B We are both Autistic and will very probably be shattered and in bed by 10pm.

Last year I did a quick slideshow on the TV from pics on my phone, just going through the year. You forget so much and the kids loved it.
