Work Dilemma

Hi, I have posted before and I still haven't resolved this issue for myself. I have a job and have been offered another one and I don't know what to do! My indecision is driving me insane. Job I am in, not the manager, bigger area and less known, so a bit of a challenge, so a bit more interesting maybe, job I've been offered, manager, old area I worked in before for another company, so know the patch (property) - is anyone out there to maybe fire some questions at me so I can work out what to do, I keep going round round (after an already odd time work wise since Covid) and don't know what to do for the best..... I seem to have some deep seated issues around it all...

Thanks, it looks like the salary increase is quite uncertain.

If you're comfortable and happy at a job, I wouldn't recommend moving unless it's a guaranteed jump of at least 10% in salary. Especially at our age.

I'm not really happy where I am as I'm now working for what was my main competitor before, and whilst they have a good business model, I like the culture less, it's very laddie, although, there is an argument to say I haven't given it a chance as I feel like I am holding back a bit - the culture in the other place , with only 2 other people, would be very much what I make it, smaller more independent vibe overall. My biggest fear is if I fail, and if I have feelings of going backwards, which is crazy as that was my area and I know loads of people there.

I’ve not much advice I’m afraid as I am in the same boat! And really need to make a decision this week. Obviously we aren’t completely happy where we are or we wouldn’t have been applying for other things; but I’ve been here before, had job offers then think the grass isn’t always greener and stay where I am. Going to do a final pros and cons list tonight.

The advice I would give you is this. Work out the answers to these questions and I think you'll have made up your mind by the end of them.

Which job gives you better benefits - like health benefits or financial benefits or life-balance time benefits?

Which one would you bring more to the table on?

Which one would you be willing to work late to get the job done for? (this would be one that could be telling because you might enjoy the job you could be moving to but you would be happier staying back late on occasion to get the job done in the one you are in currently or vice versa).

Work out the daily commute - if they are equal what would give you more happiness on?

Is the money the same or different? Which is paying more? Why are they paying more?

Is there a higher turnover of staff in one over the other?

Do you have to progress to management in one over the other? Are there different paths of progression in the jobs? Not everyone is cut out for management and some companies/roles, the only way to progress is to become a team leader - manager - senior manager and this might not be suited to some.

Why did you apply for the other job? Does it offer this?

They approached me as I am known in the area/industry. I'm only 5 month in to the new job, so still in my probation period.

Good luck making a decision, I've found this really tough myself!

Thank you, same to you! I think my problem is that I don’t hate the job I’m in. It would be easier if I did. There are many frustrations within my department so when they get on top of me, I look to move elsewhere. But when I’m offered something, I dither because my job has a lot of flexibility, is on my doorstep and I’m trusted to get on with it without being micromanaged. I also have some great colleagues. I’d hate to leave and then regret it. It’s a tough one.

I hope you come to a decision soon; best of luck.
