Just change the way you look at things.

When your alarm goes off instead of thinking of god, it's dark and rainy , think yeah I've just bought some new jam I want to try on my toast.

It's actually easier than you think but you have to do it conscientiously at first. Then it's automatic

This.

My dh once said happiness is a state of mind, and he's right.

Any advice for when your struggling with pain ?

That's a bit different. Physical or mental pain?

SnowOwlWise · 30/12/2022 10:45

Physical which can lead to mental

But I still need to think more positively either way

It's the same advice. Instead of thinking ouch getting out of bed is painful. , Look forward to your new jam when you make it downstairs

I've just ordered a copy of Happy by Derren Brown which I've heard good things about. I think it is based on stoism etc.

Sorry to hear about your pain.

squashyhat · 30/12/2022 10:49

Come off social media.

Come off social media.

Yes good one.
Give up booze.
Make a cosy place to sit and read.
Think of three things you are grateful for before you go to bed - this really works I've no idea how or why but it does.

MeMyBooksAndMyCats · 30/12/2022 10:53
  • come off social media.
  • do not check your phone for the first half hour of waking up, get up and have some toast or read a book.
  • drink a pint of water first thing.

As pain goes I have multiple illnesses and the only thing that helps me is pacing myself, not doing to much and resting inbetween.

MeMyBooksAndMyCats · 30/12/2022 10:54

Also a good sleep routine! can't stress this one enough. I can tell when I've not had enough sleep as my mental health goes out the window. I take a nap when I'm having bad thoughts and wake up feeling better.

Visual the pain having a colour, shape and texture. Really sorry with it. Go into it and connect with it . Then change the colour shape and testier to something softer, kinder and less solid. See it melting away and dissolving. The mind is incredibly powerful.
Read books like The Journey by Brandon Bays and The Biology of Belief by Bruce Lipton.
Look up Hypnotherapy for pain , try a hypnotherapist if you can afford one.

Walnutwhipsarenothesame · 30/12/2022 10:55

Not sorry, see!

Rayn22 · 30/12/2022 11:30

Booze! I am giving up. So much happier when I don't drink!
