How long is your wait for a new car?

I ‘bought’ a Skoda Octavia in Sept 2021 and it is still not being built!! So in the interim I’m just here with my tiny 3 door car and two kids under 3, with their car seat, pram and all sorts… it was meant to be built and delivered before my now 9 month old was born 😂

So how long have you been waiting and what kind of car is it?

We waited for a Kia for around 8 months. We were just about to buy something else when it arrived.

Could you find something different?

honeylou42 · 30/12/2022 03:35

Hopefully 10 months for an electric MG, ordered last May and have been given a date for end of March 23 🤞

Lmgify · 30/12/2022 03:36

It was the only car I liked that I can afford and has the boot space (I’m incredibly short so some cars I can’t even see out of…)

I grabbed a bargain back in 2021, I can’t even get a second hand 2-3 year car for that price now

New Yaris ordered just before Christmas. I'm told it'll be May or June . Not massively worried as I've already got one but it'll be interesting to see how long it takes.

I wanted a Tiguan but was a two year wait for opted for the next model down still an eight month wait. X

SchnauzerEyebrows · 30/12/2022 04:15

Ordered a Kia Sportage on 4th April and it's being handed over next week or week after.

Dontsparethehorses · 30/12/2022 04:18

Dh ordered a bmw ix3 in March - it was meant to come 22nd dec but pushed back to first week Jan… we will see!

Meant to have a new company car in 2020, haven't got it yet and no idea when it'll be here. Fleet Manager is fed up with trying to sort cars.

Lmgify · 30/12/2022 09:04

Sounds like the Volkswagen/ Skoda group is really struggling to produce atm then!

There's a global shortage of a tiny part. I think its a chip if I remember correctly. so unless the vehicle is already built, people are waiting hideous amounts of time for new car orders regardless of the brand 😔 its made used cars more desirable/expensive as a result. Pain in the ass.

chocolateasaltyballs22 · 30/12/2022 09:16

I gave up on the new one I had on order. Bought a year old VW instead.

JustBkind · 30/12/2022 09:22

Took 9 months for our Volvo XC60 ordered June 21 and received Feb 22. A friend of mine ordered an Audi RS in Feb 22 and has been told Dec 23 at the earliest!

chouxfleur · 30/12/2022 09:38

We ordered a Peugeot in early November 2021. Finally got it end of November this year. They kept pushing delivery date back and back.

reluctantbrit · 30/12/2022 10:05

We managed to buy a one year old for this reason, typical wair for a new hyprid is around 12 months now.

Neighbours just bought a one year old Octavia but had to travel from London to Devon to pick it up, our market here is totally empty.

cheapskatemum · 30/12/2022 10:16

My lovely 3 month old Mercedes EQA was written off in July & estimated date of being able to get replacement is June '23, so a year. Like you OP, I'm in a much smaller car (Smart4/4). It also has a much shorter range (60 miles). Poor you, OP, you have it far worse! My sympathies Flowers

SantaOnFanta · 30/12/2022 10:33

We've waited 18 months for a Skoda, apparently on transit on a ship somewhere!

Dougieowner · 30/12/2022 10:46

Ordered a bespoke spec VW Polo pre-covid and the delivery timescale was well over 6-months even back then.
If you bought a car with the "popular" extras then VW could supply it from UK stock within a week but as soon as you added extras that weren't usually requested then you had to wait for it to be built and shipped from South Africa.

OrangeBlossom28 · 30/12/2022 10:47

I'm going to order a Mini Cooper S soon and the wait is about 4 or 5 months.

That’s what they’ll tell you 😂

Soontobe60 · 30/12/2022 10:50

I ordered a lease VW Taigo on 6th January 2022. I am finally collecting it next Friday! So exactly 1 year. On the plus side, the price I was quoted when I ordered it has come down by almost £50 a month!

I bought a new Kia Picanto in 2019 and worked out what ship it was on. Tracked it all the way from Korea - and then it was stuck outside Immigham for two weeks.

(With the market as it is, it's now worth three grand more than I paid for it!)

OrangeBlossom28 · 30/12/2022 10:56

@Soontobe60 to be fair to them, I first enquired in Aug and the lead time is still the same. They said this week that cars ordered now are April and I need it for the end of May. Going to see them tomorrow so hopefully still the same! This is Mini Rybrook at Worcester.

LIZS · 30/12/2022 11:02

Audi just over six months

Dougieowner · 30/12/2022 11:04

We ordered a new motorhome a few months ago and were quoted 18-months but fully expect that to slip.
Most important thing was to get it at a fixed price as we are certain that the Spring 24 price is going to be considerably more than the Autumn 22 price.

As with some cars, people who don't want to wait are buying recent / used 'vans for the same price as a new one to avoid the delay.

AHelpfulHand · 30/12/2022 11:08

Ordered a Tesla model X in May this year, was told to expect it around Jan ‘ 24. Had a phone call from Tesla afew weeks ago saying there is no release date, they have no idea when it will be.
