My carpet is f*cked isn't it

Elderly cat urinated in the middle of the bedroom carpet. It was dry when found. It's a wool mix carpet. Dh did the initial clean with water and white vinegar. We've now got a 1m square patch of dirty tide as well as a still visible middle stain and potentially damaged carpet fibres. I've since tried an ancient bissel carpet cleaner machine twice with carpet shampoo and then with 101 stain remover. The carpet is fucked, isn't it? Anyone have any miracle suggestions?

buy a rug.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 29/12/2022 11:59

After treating with the above suggestion maybe hire a rug doctor?

Rug.

Reluctantadult · 29/12/2022 12:02

Think rug doctor is just a carpet washing machine so same as what I've used (but newer).

Rug is where I'm at.

Carpets are only 1yr old 😔

The problem is, even if you get the stain clean, the underlay will still be dirty and smell. I would replace it personally.

MaggieFS · 29/12/2022 12:04

Accidental damage cover on home insurance to replace it, if it rally can't be salvaged?

Fleurdaisy · 29/12/2022 12:05

Is it ruined by a mark or smell?
You could try bicarbonate of soda, sprinkle liberally on the rug, brush into the pile, leave for as long as possible, hoover.
For cat urine smell the only thing that will remove it is surgical spirit. You could try on a piece of carpet that won’t show, maybe under the bed. If it doesn’t affect the colour spray the area with a mix of surgical spirit mixed with water (50/50) and sprayed on.
if it’s a mark try a Rug Doctor on the whole carpet.

Ruined by a 1m stain.

Sorry to hear this.

This is the most comprehensive info that I've found. Section 7. www.petforums.co.uk/threads/is-your-cat-peeing-or-pooing-in-the-house-this-is-the-house-soiling-thread.371806/

The Simple Solution enzymatic cleaner is helpful but you need all the other stuff too... vinegar, surgical spirit. And patience. Total nightmare.

AriettyHomily · 29/12/2022 12:18

We got someone out to clean our (month old!) carpet when ddog was unwell and peed and had diarrhoea. We did the initial clean up and they came a few days later and it's literally as good as new. No stains, no smells.

AnnaMagnani · 29/12/2022 13:25

Get professional carpet cleaner in. Their machines are far better than anything you can do with a Rugdoctor.

Has rescued my carpets many times.

Thank you all.
