DH wanting to make a turkey curry for tea tonight with turkey leftovers from the fridge. Will they still be safe to eat, I'm unsure but DH thinks it will be fine 😬

Of course

KangarooKenny · 29/12/2022 06:33

If it was cooked on Xmas day I wouldn’t eat it now.

Lifeispassingby · 29/12/2022 06:38

When did you cook it? It should be ok for 72 hours if it’s been in the fridge the whole time. If cooked Xmas day- I’d eat it if cooked Xmas eve then no

I would, absolutely.

Augend23 · 29/12/2022 06:46

I'd be happy with that, but probably wouldn't want there to then be leftover curry!

LovelyDaaling · 29/12/2022 06:51

As long as you have kept it in the fridge at 5°C or below, it's absolutely fine.
We'll be having cold turkey today too, then picking the meat off the carcass and freezing it. Great in stir fries, curries and pies. Don't waste a scrap. Yes

LovelyDaaling · 29/12/2022 06:53

Forget the random 'yes' at the end! Don't know where that came from!

glittermoomoo · 29/12/2022 06:54

Let your DH eat it

fallfallfall · 29/12/2022 06:55

Yes, assuming it’s been refrigerated since.

Frenchfancy · 29/12/2022 07:14

Cooked chicken and turkey will keep a week in the fridge.

BarbaraofSeville · 29/12/2022 07:23

I'd eat it. I remember going to several NYE parties where the last of the Christmas turkey was served on the buffet so I think it will be fine today.

PieonaBarm · 29/12/2022 07:26

Yes. The cooked meat you buy from the supermarket will have been cooked days before it arrives and still has a long date on it. It will be fine as long as you've kept it refrigerated

flowerycurtain · 29/12/2022 07:27

We always do. Sits in our conservatory if a cold Xmas or the fridge if not. I tend to freeze everything we haven't eaten on about the 29th.

wandawaves · 29/12/2022 07:30

I gave 3 days for our turkey leftovers. I used most of it last night in a creamy pasta sauce, which I simmered for a while, just to be safe. Then binned the rest today.

EllieRosesMammy · 29/12/2022 07:33

As long as its been in the fridge it'll be fine :) just make sure any reheated food reaches a temp of above 82c

honeylou42 · 29/12/2022 08:32

Cooked Xmas day and covered in fridge since

I always go with 3 to 4 days if in the fridge and smelling fine so made turkey and gammon pies for the freezer yesterday (meat cooked on Christmas Eve.) I would think it would be fine today but personally would use it up and not leave it longer.

Cooked chicken and turkey will keep a week in the fridge.

What???? No way.

piedbeauty · 29/12/2022 09:35

I'd say 3 days max, and only if it was cooked quickly and put back in fridge quickly. UK advice is to eat within 2 days. A week is insane. See www.womanandhome.com/food/how-long-does-cooked-chicken-last-in-the-fridge/

HowDoWeDoThisPlease · 29/12/2022 09:37

yes. 3-4 days is what they say is ok to keep cooked meat if stored correctly.

mum11970 · 29/12/2022 09:37

It’ll be fine to eat

MerryChristmasTree · 29/12/2022 09:38

It’ll be fine. I’ve got a fridge of leftovers still.

3 days when I worked in kitchens. No way would I eat week old cooked chicken.

Changingplace · 29/12/2022 09:38

Yeah I would, I did a beef curry last night with Christmas leftovers and it was lush.

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 29/12/2022 09:41

It'll be fine today. We did a Turkey curry Boxing Day and Turkey in gravy with yorkshires and mash yesterday. I'll be freezing the rest of it today though as we won't be using any for a few days now.
