I've been awake since 2am and feeling so fed up. I'm wondering if anyone has or has had a bad cold recently that just wouldn't go away?

I came down with it 9 days ago and had horrendous body aches and a high temperature, combined with a cough and headache. Couldn't get out of bed for three days. Finally started to feel a bit better and migrated to the couch with my duvet but now it's got worse again and i can't sleep due to coughing and being so bunged up I can't breathe. I'm so bored of lying in bed or on the couch, but I physically can't do anything I feel so ill. I just feel like there's no sign at all of me starting to get better. Is this normal... Is it just a bad case or has my immune system given up on me lol

Is it flu? OH tested positive for influenza B, which is likely what I have had too, as same sort of symptoms
I had ruled out flu at first as it presented as a bad cold and we were mostly able to push through and Do Stuff

i hope you’re feeling better soon. We’re 8/9 days in and still feeling rough

Haruka · 28/12/2022 08:26

I don't want to increase your annoyance, but mine is only now getting better, after the best part of 4 weeks...

coughcoughpee · 28/12/2022 08:29

@ViewFromTheAfternoon I'm the same. Day 10 but not been able to get out of bed the past week (lovely Christmas!). Every day I think I must start to feel better but the temp and cough are still going strong.

It's horrible. I've been ill for most of December, it shows signs of going then just keeps coming back worse. One of the worst phases of illness I've ever had.

Bobishere · 28/12/2022 09:15

Same.
Started 3rd December, ill for 7-10 days, got a bit better, went back to work for the week before break up, then bad again all over Xmas

Hbh17 · 28/12/2022 09:22

9 days isn't really very long. Last year (2021) I had a cold & cough that hung around for 8 weeks! Which merely illustrates that these things are very variable, but you will recover eventually.

ViewFromTheAfternoon · 28/12/2022 09:36

Oh no, even though I'm sorry to hear that other people have been so ill, it's also nice to know I'm not alone. 9 days isn't very long but for me its unusual as I'm usually feeling much better after about 5 days.

Does anyone know the best thing for completely blocked sinuses? I can't breathe whatsoever out of my nose, I have tried Vicks which didn't do anything

It’s most likely Flu. Honestly so many of our hospital patients are testing positive for it that or covid or RSV in the majority

Otrivine spray, best thing ever for congestion. Hope you feel better soon, OP

CoffeeBoy · 28/12/2022 09:40

I’m on day 10 I think. I had a better night last night so am hoping I’ve turned a corner. I was in bed for three days last week, bizarrely had a reprieve Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and felt better. Went downhill again Boxing Day, was I. Bed all day yesterday. Am considering getting up today.

siriusblackcat · 28/12/2022 09:42

3 weeks until I started feeling better. Still got the occasional cough though.
Only thing that helped was lots of rest

Brrrrrrrrrrrr · 28/12/2022 09:45

Hope you get better soon OP and anyone else suffering with this right now.

I'd be very interested in knowing how big this double whammy wave of flu and Covid actually is. I have friends and colleagues who’ve been completely floored by it, some already had it only a month or so before too- their immune systems don’t seem to be effective against simple colds and flus this is in both vaccinated and unvaccinated before anyone brings that up.

As476 · 28/12/2022 09:48

I had this. It started the Saturday before the 12th (no idea on date but I missed something really important on the 12th because of it!).

I am only just starting to feel better. The cough is lingering, the headaches went Christmas Eve. I still get tired easily and have been sleeping more than usual.

It is horrid. I hope you start to get some relief soon!

christmassausages · 28/12/2022 09:50

I've been taking day and night nurse capsules. Better than paracetamol I've found.

Nanalisa60 · 28/12/2022 09:52

I’m on day three, but my husband found a Covid test last night , and yes I am bloody positive. My sinuses as just killing me and the pains in my joints are really bad. It’s the not being able to sleep because my head feels so blocked up.

Had Covid and flu jabs in November, won’t be doing that again next year.

YellowHpok · 28/12/2022 09:54

Day 9 here too and SO OVER THIS. Have gone back to bed.

Had my flu jab ages ago so really hope it's not flu, but it does feel like flu.

Kids are enjoying a very lazy Christmas and I'm trying not to feel too guilty about it.

If you've had a fever for 10 days you really should see a doctor

catsnthat · 28/12/2022 09:57

Day nurse in the day, night nurse at night, pholcodeine linctus for cough plus steaming (face over big bowl of hot water with towel over your head)

Buy yourself some otrivine nasal spray, its a miracle drug.

grievinggirlneedsadvice · 28/12/2022 10:03

I'm just coming out of the end of this.
Started with vomiting phlegm 5 weeks ago, have had probably 3 days between that of feeling vaguely normal, between sinus problems, huge rash all over chest, sneezing for days, fevers for days, extreme fatigue and the worst cough of my life
Just finishing second course of antibiotics as managed to catch strep throat whilst in the middle of it.
Never felt so ill in all my life. Was beginning to think something more than a virus was up, but actually was reassured by some threads on here that it was just a horrendous bug.
It does end even if it doesn't feel like it!

July70 · 28/12/2022 10:03

Fever does last for 5 days in cases I know of but by the 5th/6th day you should feel somewhat better if not see gp.

They can drag on for well over a week and 2/3 weeks before back to normal but we are all different - but see gp if not feeling better after 5th/6th days as may need anitbiotics or call the healthline before then

cantkeepawayforever · 28/12/2022 10:17

DH has this - took a Covid test because we were considering seeing my elderly parents. Positive, unsurprisingly. I suspect the slightly milder version I have been suffering from, picked up in a school, was also Covid. There’s a lot of it about.

forwhatitsworth22 · 28/12/2022 10:23

I'm just getting over it, I bought a nose spray so I could sleep at night. Plenty of rest
