I have a friend who lives in China, he is English and his wife is Chinese. I would like to send them some presents out for their baby which is due in early April. They have not said if they are having a boy or a girl, and I have asked if I should avoid any colours for religious or superstitious reasons and he has advised me to avoid white as it is associated with death and that red is always a safe bet as that is for weddings, Chinese New Year and good fortune. He's not sure what they would like (but then that doesn't surprise me) and I don't really know his wife in order to ask her myself. I was going to send baby clothes but most newborn clothes are white and I now don't feel it would be appropriate in case I offend them. I'm 59 years old and my children are all adults and I have no grandchildren so it's a long time since I've bought anything for babies. Can anyone advise me as I really would like to send them a gift and apparently parcels can take quite a while to get there I need to send it sooner rather than later.
