Where's hot, warm and cheap to go this time of year?

I haven't had a holiday abroad since 2018, I hate this cold weather, Jan, Feb is such a miserable time of year. Just feel like booking somewhere warm for a week away, just for me. Anyone for any good recommendations please?

Do you want hot or warm, it makes a difference to how far you need to travel.

SeatonCarew · 27/12/2022 21:40

Portugal and Spain can be very pleasant in January and very cheap. Throw in your heating savings and go for a fortnight! 😊

Miss03852 · 27/12/2022 21:40

Canary Islands won’t be that hot at this time. Maybe Egypt, I’ve been there and didn’t really like it tbh. You’d have to fly quite a long way away to guarantee good weather. Somewhere like Thailand.

evemillbank · 27/12/2022 21:41

Canaries, Egypt, The Gambia.

AkoraEdelherb · 27/12/2022 21:42

Anywhere on the Levante will be warm. I was in the Valencia / Alicante area last week and we had 25 degrees. Granted this is not guaranteed all throughout winter, but it won’t go any lower than 15-17 during the day and full sunshine, unless you’re very unlucky (it rains once or twice each winter).

I felt just like you in November. So booked flights out to Fuerteventura with Ryanair from Birmingham. With priority boarding, hand luggage only and fasten track security it came to £117 return. When flights are this cheap it means you can go cheap on a hotel/self catering or a more expensive hotel. I went for half board at a lovely 5* hotel - booked direct with the hotel’s website at substantial discount. Got upgraded to Sea View on arrival on their loyalty scheme - and at just E12 taxi from the airport it was perfect. Temps were 24 - 28 daily. Loved it so much I’ve booked again for first week of Feb - guess what the flights are even cheaper then, so I’m taking my gown up daughter with me too this time. Can’t wait for a bit more sunshine!

That sounds perfect! Would you be willing to tell me which hotel you stayed at please?

Absolutely! This one:

Highly recommended!! Couldn’t fault it at all & proximity to the airport makes it really easy to travel to independently. Online booking works really well and plenty of choice of rooms/meal plans to suit any budget. The food was excellent but also there are plenty of restaurants in easy walking distance if you prefer.

Starhaf · 27/12/2022 22:21

Forgot to add photos - this was the room I was upgraded to

Sounds amazing... As a holiday novice can you recommend a website to search for hotels?

minipie · 27/12/2022 23:56

Yes to Morocco - Marrakech / nearby. Cold early morning and evening but lovely warm sun in between.

Booking.com is good. I’ve always found them brilliant.

November was lovely in Malta. Off to Madeira in a fortnight, not hot but mild. Flights £30 return both times with just a small carry on. Booking com for accomodation

losingit31 · 28/12/2022 05:33

UAE. Dubai isn't cheap so you'll get better value if you fly into DXB and then travel to Ras al Khaimah, or Al Aqah beach in Fujairah.
