Will a nespresso aeroccino do the same job as a velvetiser?

I have been given a gift of some hotel chocolat hot chocolate for the velvetiser. I do not own a velvetiser and it seems a pricey purchase just to use this gift.

Could I follow the packet instructions (add milk and chocolate flakes to the velvetiser) but use an aeroccino instead?

Or would I be better making it with hot milk on the hob? Obviously wouldn’t have the frothy element but better than nothing I guess.

Thank you

You can make it in the areoccino, it’s lovely.

Paddybare · 27/12/2022 17:07

Yes absolutely, the velvetiser is essentially just a milk frother. Just remember to never put the chocolate in first!

felixthefox · 27/12/2022 17:11

Thank you both! I thought it would work but didn’t want to risk somehow breaking the aeroccino.

Thanks for the tip @Paddybare this is probably the kind of mistake I would have made 🤦‍♀️

I’ve been wondering this. Don’t have either but thinking of wizzing it in the nutri bullet which I use when making a bullet coffee and gives a nice froth.

will report back!

Follow up question, would it be unreasonable to drink 2 in a row?

I’ve just made it in the aeroccino and it was delightful.

It might have tasted slightly more delightful because nap-refusing DS has gone to bed very easily and DH has gone out for the evening so I have the sofa and the tv remote all to myself!

You can absolutely have two in a row. Just make sure you add a glug of baileys once done. It's Christmas.

Catsstillrock · 27/12/2022 19:39

No it is THE MUMSNET LAW that you have another ASAP to celebrate this moment @felixthefox !

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 27/12/2022 19:39

We've got both and the velvetiser makes it hotter but other than the at, they're essentially the same.
Definitely drink more than one!! What flavour do you have?

felixthefox · 27/12/2022 19:45

Exactly the answer I was hoping for!

I was worried it wouldn’t be hot enough but it was nice to be able to drink it right away @AnnoyedByAlfieBear I’ve got salted caramel but already perusing the website for other flavours I might like.

I couldn't get a velvetiser (not in UK) I looked into alternatives and one of the best rated was the Aldi range milk frother. That was sold out too before Christmas it was really cheap, so I bought a Bialetti choco and milk frother and we can finally enjoy all the Hotel Chocolat hot chocs we've been gifted. A saucepan and whisk just didn't seem to cut it.

greenkitten2 · 27/12/2022 20:03

@Paddybare why can't you put the chocolate in?

Metallocker · 27/12/2022 20:16

greenkitten2 · 27/12/2022 20:03

@Paddybare why can't you put the chocolate in?

It heats up from the base so you’d get loads of melted chocolate at the bottom which is oils be a nightmare to clean up and a less chocolatey hot chocolate, which is a different kind of nightmare 😂 Always pour in the milk and then add the chocolate.

greenkitten2 · 27/12/2022 20:19

@Metallocker thank you!

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 27/12/2022 20:29

My favourite is the white chocolate with Madagascan vanilla. The mint choc is nice too. Tastes just like After Eights.

pinklillie · 27/12/2022 20:57

I do exactly that as I got a Hotel Chocolat subscription for Christmas and already had the Nespresso frother. I boil the kettle to heat the mugs up while the milk and chocolate froth and it's nice and hot then.
