Did you take photos/videos of dc opening their presents?

or were you just in the moment?

I think we may have taken one when the family were all sitting around as the first presents were opened. We do normally - though just one or two max. Not posted on SM, but for our own benefit. Rest of the time we are busy taking turns to open gifts.

I believe it is possible to take the odd photograph or two, whilst still enjoying the moment as well.

Soubriquet · 27/12/2022 16:14

No. I used to, but then I realised they just sit in my phone and I don’t get much joy. So this year I just watched.

Gingerlygreen · 27/12/2022 16:21

Nope, photography is my hobby, I love it and spend hours every year doing it but on Christmas day I want to be part of it with the kids and not looking through a lens or behind my phone.

bluechameleon · 27/12/2022 16:25

I usually try to get one photo of each child - if they are decent they'll go in that year's photobook. You can take a quick photo and still be present in the moment.

Winterfellismyhome · 27/12/2022 16:26

Usually only Nannys presents to send to her

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 27/12/2022 16:26

Always did yes.

EcoCustard · 27/12/2022 16:31

No, rarely remember to take any pictures.

FuckingHateRats · 27/12/2022 16:33

We took a couple, managed to capture a cracker of my 11yr old with her mouth open in shock at her gift. Can only have taken 20 seconds out of the morning.

Purpleskies46 · 27/12/2022 16:42

Aww

Yes I took a few and have sent them to family and watched them back a few times already. I don't feel like it took anything away from being in the moment, I can record and take pictures with my phone away from my face, it is not like having to hold up a bulky video recorder or camera like you used to have to.

BooksAndHooks · 27/12/2022 16:50

Yea always do. The video camera is on table recording and DH and I take turns taking photos of special presents being opened.

Thecomfortador · 27/12/2022 16:56

Yes we took short videos and photos fairly at random. I love looking back on photos of Christmases past and will enjoy looking back at these in the future. That's not to say I wasn't present or interacting with the kids, you can do both.

reluctantbrit · 27/12/2022 16:57

Yes, we all take turns taking photos of each other. Always did and also in my childhood my parents took photos of us and I love seeing them and remembering the gifts and the Chrismasses past.

It takes no time at all. But we also take turns in opening presents so it's not a ripping of the paper affair.

Mrstumbletap · 27/12/2022 16:59

I took a few photos of the stocking opening, and one of all of us in front of the tree before any unwrapping, then didn't look on my phone for the rest of the day.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 27/12/2022 16:59

Yes we did take some and I took a video of us going in the room.
It doesn't mean I missed out because I can hold my phone and look at what's happening at the same time

Purpleskies46 · 27/12/2022 17:38

Good idea to put camera on table and leave it run.

MassiveSalad22 · 27/12/2022 17:39

Both! You can film and watch live in real life over the top of the phone.

MassiveSalad22 · 27/12/2022 17:40

We have the most gorge video of DS1 opening his presents aged 2.5. Our first child on the first Christmas he knew what was going on, and his little amazed voice ❤️❤️ SO glad I videoed that and I rewatch it at least once a year!

nancydroo · 27/12/2022 17:41

No not this year

Passmethecrisps · 27/12/2022 17:41

We take pictures of the kids opening gifts from family who live some distance away - which is all of them. Other than that either DH or I take a few snaps

MassiveSalad22 · 27/12/2022 17:41

Also I love watching my baby videos from the 90s Christmases 😄 it’s not a new thing. Nor is trying to eat chocolate coins without unwrapping them, 1991 me 😄

Ansumpasty · 27/12/2022 17:44

I did for the main presents. So glad I did- DS burst into tears of happiness and I will be rewatching that video for the rest of my life ❤️

Nimbostratus100 · 27/12/2022 17:44

I never have done, and have never minded not having photos of those moments either. I have one photo from my childhood that my Dad took on Christmas day of a gift he gave me when I was 9, that I still have

Nimbostratus100 · 27/12/2022 17:46

I still have the gift I mean! The gift and the photo, 50 years later

ChimChimeny · 27/12/2022 17:47

We videoed DD opening her last present from Santa because we knew it'd be a big reaction as it was a surprise & something she's wanted off & on for years
