4 year old- meningitis??

My daughter is nearly 4. She has a temp of around 39-40, feels sick and has a sore neck. She said the lights make her neck and back hurt. Phoned 111 and waiting for a call back that could be in the next 24 hours. The operator asked if she can put her chin on her chest, which she can. She is asleep now. The operator didn’t tell me to go to A&E, I guess because my daughter doesn’t have all the signs of meningitis. Any advice??? Sat here watching her just in case and don’t want to waste anyone’s time but I’m concerned about her.

I would definitely take to A&E with those symptoms, if you are worried trust yourself.

pandwa · 27/12/2022 04:09

I wouldn't be waiting on a call to be honest id just go to A&E

I'd be talking her to A&E straight away. Heaven forbid but if it is anything sinister you certainly haven't got 24 hours to wait for a call back.
The symptoms don't necessarily all show up at once.

If I even suspected meningitis I’d be on my way to A&E. A PP is correct, symptoms may no show up all at once.

Take her to A&E.

They're some symptoms you don't mess about with.

Pack a bag, some good blankets, snacks, juice and a tablet for her.

Hopefully it will just be an inconvenience, but not worth the risk x

Noleafclover1 · 27/12/2022 04:15

Absolutely take her to A&E, she needs to be seen urgently. Don't wait for her to wake up naturally- get her things together, wake her and go. Hopefully it isn't meningitis but it might be and if so you can't hang about. Hope you get seen and sorted quickly xxx

I called them for my baby a few years ago. 11 days old, temperature of 39. They never called back!

Took him to A&E anyway and he was kept in for 3 days.

Don't wait, take her to A&E now.

WorriedMillie · 27/12/2022 06:03

A&E, OP. I stupidly listened to 111 advice (not to go) yesterday and it almost didn’t end well!
I’m now safely in hospital

I hope she’s ok 🌸

Hi Op
How are things. How's is your little one doing

Jules912 · 27/12/2022 12:41

Hopefully you're in A&E. when my DS had similar symptoms GP sent us straight there ( and only didn't call an ambulance as it was quicker for us to drive) and he was rushed through. Turned out to be nothing but they said we were right to come.

Shooshan · 27/12/2022 14:08

Hope you and your daughter are OK x

Concernedmum22111 · 27/12/2022 14:32

Hi everyone, thanks for all your advice. We took her and thankfully it is nothing serious - just something viral and her temp has come down loads now. They said if she complains of those symptoms again to take her straight to A&E and not wait for 111 so it made me feel better about not wasting anyone’s time! Thanks again x
