What is this possibly ancient film?

MN is great at identifying half remembered faces, books and films so here goes...
First of all, it's NOT "It's a Wonderful Life" (1946) despite me thinking it is

It involves a "bank run" which is when people lose confidence in a small bank or savings and loan, and hoardes of people turn up demanding to withdraw all their cash, and the bank collapses because they don't have the cash reserves to pay everyone at once, even though its otherwise solvent. Bit like people causing last years fuel shortage by all filling their cars up at the same time!
In this film, people are queueing up to withdraw their money from a small family run bank, and a character gets to the front of the queue and asks to DEPOSIT some cash, very very slowly with lots of small change which takes so long that it is legitimately closing time before the Bank runs out of money.

I've Googled and can't find the film.

American? Black and White? Main characters?

BruceAndNosh · 26/12/2022 15:03

I'm thinking American. Can't remember anything apart from the depositer who was possibly a stereotype "little old lady" possibly wearing a hat.
If the film doesn't exist, I need to write the screenplay!

The film you're looking for is Good Morning, Miss Dove.

Sorry, OP - I was so excited about knowing the answer that I forgot to post any addtional info:

...In still another story, there was a "run" on the local bank as frantic depositors waited in line to withdraw their savings. Miss Dove instead deliberately stalled for time as she very leisurely deposited her paycheck just as the teller windows closed at 3:00, angering other depositors. The next morning, the crisis passed as the bank received money from Federal authorities.

Gosh you're clever. Sounds like a lovely soppy movie.

@HowVeryLikeSibella - I see you're a fan of Kind Hearts and Coronets! Grin

Yes, it's a lovely soppy, sentimental film with a very similar feel to It's A Wonderful Life, so I can understand how the OP mis-attributed the bank scene.
