Surely they will have washed, ironed and re-hung the curtains and steam cleaned all the furniture too. If you havent Bluebeard then its nothing short of slovenly in my opinion

Well, I only managed to get my tree up and decorated at 11:30 pm on Christmas eve, so mine Is staying up till twelfth night!
I used to work with an awful woman who used to boast that her tree and all decorations were down and back in the attic by 3:00pm on Christmas day as "once you have seen the Queens Speech, Christmas is over".

PurpleButterflyWings · 26/12/2022 00:22

They were here 5 days ago. Grin #joking There will be some miserable fecker who says the tree is coming down Boxing day soon. Don't believe them myself. No-one does this in real life.

CrapBucket · 26/12/2022 00:24

Each to their own but mine stays up until the very last moment, I hate it when the decorations come down! For me Christmas only started today, I normally work 6 days out of 7 (occasionally 7/7) so to now have a few days off in a row is AMAZING.

I'm a Twelfth Nighter and proud

Ducksurprise · 26/12/2022 00:34

I'm a NY eve'er. I hate starting January with the decaying remains of December.

HearMeSnore · 26/12/2022 00:42

@Ducksurprise Im going to try that this year. I find New Year quite depressing. Maybe it's because it comes just when the Christmas festivities have wound down, but it feels like the end of something rather than a beginning. Getting the decs down before New Year might help to separate it from Christmas and make it more of a celebration in its own right.

MadMadMadamMim · 26/12/2022 00:45

I raise you Candlemas. 2 Feb. Someone told me a couple of years ago that in Poland they keep decorations up til Candlemas and that struck me as ace. I loathe January, back to work, overweight. The twinkly Christmas lights made it just about bearable. And you don't feel so slovenly if they are lurking about because you have a plan...rather than you're just a slut of a housekeeper.

I am declaring myself Polish for this part of the year.

SouperNoodle · 26/12/2022 00:47

Mine normally comes down on the day after Boxing Day but we put it up late this year so I might leave it a few extra days.... just this once 😉

ForgedInFire · 26/12/2022 00:49

I saw plenty of them on FB, saying the tree came straight down after dinner. Some even earlier. Personally I was too full to move for an hour. My mum was strict on taking the tree down on twelfth night, but I usually take it down on NY eve to have everything feeling fresh for January.

SomePosters · 26/12/2022 00:50

I have only once had my Christmas tree down on Christmas Day.

it was toddler time and the constant temptation to tug bits off and potentially pull it dow. had been an issue since it went up.

Add 2 more toddlers and the excitement of Christmas Day and the inevitable happens about 6pm as guests are leaving.

By the time it was scattered across the living room floor it didn’t make sense to put it back up.

On the flip side I have also kept it up til after my January borns birthday.

Floralnomad · 26/12/2022 01:09

Ours is coming down on NYE so we start the new year with a nice tidy house , it’s been up since the start of Dec . Christmas ends for me on the 27 th , it certainly doesn’t go into January
