On holiday somewhere stunning.

DGC up and the crack of dawn for first round of present opening. Teen DC up at a more sensible hour for second round of present opening.

Presents all at hit. DH managed to get me everything on my list.

Couple of hours in the sun then off in an Uber for a fancy lunch in a beautiful setting. 4 bottle, 4 hour lunch.

Back for an hour in the sun then a bonus Xmas shag. DH quietly snoring beside me.

Will get up soon for cheese, crackers and more wine.

Anyone else having a positively lovely day??

Sounds wonderful. Enjoy.

Nodney · 25/12/2022 17:02

You lucky spud that sounds lovely. I've had a good day too, in the north of England in the rain. But kids and dh are all happy, presents were fewer than usual, but no one noticed. Enjoy your break

ZestFest · 25/12/2022 17:06

I love the idea of a happy thread as I've had my share of awful Christmases in the past.

We celebrated the festivities yesterday (Scandi-husband) and today we are chilling. DH and I had a lie in, I've been playing games and browsing MN. DH made pancakes and DS has unloaded and loaded the dishwasher and brought me coffee. It's a day of counting blessings and just doing our own thing apart but together iyswim. Later I'm going to make some lovely food and we'll watch TV or play a board game. 😊

I am a tutor and all of my students and families have texted or whatsapped me today wishing me a great day - which is so kind and makes me feel extremely lucky.

We're having a lovely day too! Leisurely lie in and then teens brought their stockings in and opened then with us.
Then DH made a breakfast of bagels, salmon, cream cheese, bacon, buttery scrambled eggs and Buck's Fizz. Kids cleared up and then we opened rest of presents. Mostly second hand off eBay but kids over the moon with theirs!
No arguments.
Got lovely cards from kids.
I'm making dinner and we'll all sit watching smaltzy Christmas films while we eat it.

It's nice to be able to post without coming across as smug fuckers.
It's not always like this- but todays a win.
Happy Christmas!

HolidayHappy123 · 25/12/2022 17:17

I’m glad others are also having a lovely time too.

I think I’d like a cold, snowy Christmas as much as a warm one.

I don’t mind doing all the planning and preparation but I know my limitations and attempting to cook Christmas lunch is beyond me.

Well played OP! That sounds lush <3

We've had a lovely chilled one, did the roast meal on 22nd with extended family so today was just enjoying the small DCs wonder and excitement, barely lifting a finger, eating whatever snack foods we fancy (m&s out the fridge/freezer, really good sourdough and local cheeses...)

So much fun, so much laughter, as the sun set we were in the garden using a giant bubble maker and sending bubbles larger than I am floating off into the neighbourhood - fun and also beautiful!

This has been a very good one and I can't see myself cooking the traditional roast again on the 25th for at least a decade :)

HolidayHappy123 · 25/12/2022 17:32

I’d like to make giant bubbles.

I’m going to drag myself out of bed to get the cheese out the fridge and get DH to uncork a bottle of red.

The house is quiet so DGC must be in bed.

As Christmas Days go, today has been good too here.

Early wake up, relaxed present opening, I went to Church, lunch and a chilled afternoon. Autistic ds has coped well.

Talapia · 25/12/2022 17:41

I was going to come running in with the cheese balls to join you, but I'm worried I may interrupt a bonus Xmas day shag 😂

Sling · 25/12/2022 17:45

We're having what most people would consider a bad day but its working for us. Cancelled flight two days ago in the big North America blizzard, long story but rescheduled to today. So basically woke up this morning in a hotel, big hearty breakfast then to the airport which is quite quiet. I guess others declined a reschedule on the 25th. We have teen kids so they are not phased to be mooching and hanging out as a family at the airport, getting ready to fly and be back ontrack with our holiday tonight!

Merry Christmas all 🥂🎄

MintJulia · 25/12/2022 17:45

Everything has gone right today.

Present opening with ds
Scrambled eggs and smoked salmon for breakfast
Out for a long walk with friends
Back home to cook perfect roast chicken with a whole platter of veg, stuffing, gravy
Now a relaxed evening of board games, snacking and corny Christmas films in front of the fire.

Last year I'd just finished my first round of chemo, I was too tired to baste a chicken and poor ds had a rubbish Christmas as a result, so this year is so much better. Nailed it !! 🤗

Seaweasel · 25/12/2022 17:45

Yes, I have both my young adult children with us this year and they came to church with us, which was lovely of them. Waiting for DD's partner to arrive this evening and then we'll have the roast we've all been holding out for. Changing the main meal to the evening has meant that I've eaten and drunk far less than usual, which is a good thing. We all have some nice presents and watched Dkitten messing about with the wrappings, which was cute. Tomorrow we are out at extended family, which I am looking forward to. All in all, a really nice day, wishing you all similar.

Me too and I wasn't expecting to after being widowed in the early part of the year.

I have had messages and photos from all my fosterlings who are with their new families and my choice of present for my current little one was a huge success, he is registered blind, he's unable to walk, talk or even support his own head for long but I bought him a light panel and some Perspex shapes and he's loved it! We had Christmas dinner, he's not able to eat but he does have a blended diet rather than prescription milks so he had what I had blended down and fed via a tube.

I am hoping to see family over the next couple of days too.

I had been dreading today but it's been OK, it's been more than OK.

Having a really lovely day here. Kids got up at a reasonable time. My teen has been fab setting up his brother & sisters toys. The boys are happily playing fifa23. We decided to push dinner back & it's been a totally chill day. My middle gave me a homemade calendar, he's done a picture & message for each month. Just me and the kids it's been the best day so far & I'm going to pour myself a well deserved glass of wine. Things were tight this year but I've pulled it off. I'm so fucking proud of myself 😊

suzyscat · 25/12/2022 18:19

Love this thread. Had the most blissful day. Herat teamwork effort for dinner, presents a success, not too many or too few. Day paced nicely with the right amount of everything, except dinner which has loads of leftovers but I wanted that. I love leftovers and usually we don't have enough.

Yesterday was lush too. Managed to do all
the crafts and games and traditions. I've Lazarussed and destroyed the kitchen many times over but I'm too full and content to care.

So proud of my children and feel all my many efforts have been so appreciated by them and DP. Can't wait to do it all again tomorrow with extended family, and grateful for not cooking or hosting that! It really is my favourite time of the year! Merry Christmas everyone.

Betwixlass · 25/12/2022 18:40

That sounds really good OP. We had a leisurely morning, went elsewhere for a delicious lunch in good company then I did 7k jog and now just having dinner from the chippy. No cooking or cleaning! Heaven!

Also no rowing, great teamwork, everyone loved their presents. It’s one of the best Christmases in years.
