The lovely little things of Christmas

Morning all, and Merry Christmas!

I am sat here, in the front room, in the dark, save for the Christmas lights. I have a cup of cinnamon coffee, and a couple of 'spare' roast potatoes needed to check if they were any good

The prep for the day is done. Apart from the turkey, many things are cooked or cooking.

The children are still asleep!

I have the window open, and can hear the birds.

This year has been tough, and sitting here, peaceful and quiet, I'm almost in tears with gratitude for us all making it to this point.

Later, when things are busy, I'll grab a couple of moments at the back door, breathe in the damp fresh air.

The children have some lovely presents to look forward to today, even if there are fewer than previous years.

The PIL, who I've had a fractious relationship with, have been so lovely. It's taken 18 years and two grandchildren, but I finally feel like part of the family.

I hope that you all can find something today that makes you glad.

Mine was picking up a live transmission of carols from my home church a thousand miles away and I managed not to cry from nostalgia.

Back then I was happy and full of dreams, life proved otherwise but it was good to see it all again, it was like time travel...

DS and his family sent us a wonderful video of the family singing and playing Don’t they know it’s Christmas?

DP told me I'm his muse this morning. It was a beautiful moment.

My mum is home on Christmas Day - she's a nurse in a care home so usually working.

Me, mum and grandma (we all live together) have had Christmas songs playing, all pitched in making dinner (which we're about to sit down to eat) and just had a lovely chilled day.

It's been a long, lovely day.
DS didn't eat anything other than his vegetables, but played a funny, giggling game with me.
Christmas dinner was a triumph.
The small presents I'd got for PIL were well received.

So tired now, just enjoying that calm, quiet time

I’ve had a beautiful day. Lots of moments where I’ve stopped and thought about how lucky I am.
just relaxing after a bath now. I can hear my son gently snoring and im Thinking about my day and the wonderful gifts I’ve received.

I don’t often feel like this so I’m savouring every second.
