A Ukrainian friend and now when colleague is heading back to Ukraine to celebrate Christmas with her family.. (they celebrate xmas in early January) and suggested she would like to bring me something back. Is there anything interesting or unique I could ask for aside from cheap duty free plonk 🤪

Her/family to have a safe holiday and return unscathed?

"Her/family to have a safe holiday and return unscathed?"
Well obviously. But maybe they want to do normal things like bring a present back for a friend. It's kind of her to think of you.

Wrong time of year to find them I suppose but maybe a packet of sunflower seeds to plant in spring?

A Christmas tree decoration?

I agree with a Christmas tree decoration.

A bottle of the local firewater. I know there's a nice 'soft' vodka and there are probably other spirits (assuming still in production)

Or anything made locally (they used to to tiny boxes with icons painted on them, possibly secular versions too - small and light in the luggage)

Something cross stitch - Ukrainian national dress involves beautiful cross stitched blouses with distinctive patterns, and there are other smaller gift things you can get in those patterns. I went there years ago and got my mum a notebook cover, for example.

But the Christmas decoration idea is also good - maybe a cross stitched one!
