Big toe help!

Hurt my big toe under the door this morning, it hurt to the point of making me feel sick. It's not swollen or particularly bruised but I am unable to bend the top joint at all. It's very sore but not excruciating. I can walk but it throbs. I'm inclined to leave until after the weekend/bank holidays and then see how it is. Only thing that worries me is the fact I can't bend it .

Thoughts?

If it is broken there's not much can be done anyway. Take painkillers if you need them and elevate it.
I broke my big toe last year and other than x-raying to confirm, draining the blood from underneath the toenail (sorry, tmi!) and providing me with a special hideous support shoe there was nothing else A&E could do.

Thanks, that was mine feeling too. My toenail looks like it's going black now which is adding to the discomfort as it's feels pressured.

Coming back to thread as big toe getting more painful not less and I still can't bend the top section at all myself (it will move if i manipulate it). If it wasn't the big toe I'd ignore but as it is I'm less inclined to leave it.

I suspect a ligament tear rather than a break. Only reason I say this is there is next to no bruise or swelling. Has anyone broken their big toe with no swelling etc?

Debating popping to minor injuries unit tomorrow. We have a walk in one that is not at a hospital so not part of A &E and does x-ray etc. Bit feel a bit of a fraud as it looks normal!

DH broke his toe, it didn't swell up or really hurt either it just went black, like very very black.

I broke a big toe some years ago. I was told big toes need looking at, little ones not. if you suspect damage please go and get it x rayed.

I was in a boot for a few weeks with mine.

Well went to get it checked at minor injuries and they wouldn't X ray as no obvious bruising. Said to keep practicing trying to move it and go back in a week if no better.
