Please could you help settle a debate in our household. A leasehold flat in our area sold for a few hundred thousand pounds, nothing surprising. The sale price is accurately recorded online. However, the Land Registry records state the sum of only £6,000. The actual buyer is listed as the sole owner, the freeholder's record is separately listed. It was not a personal sale at below value, they do not know each other, bought via the estate agent in the conventional way with a large mortgage. There is no intermediary/company/trust stated. What could be going on and how could further information be obtained?

Could you explain what would have happened to the bulk of the sale proceeds in that case? My house basically has the price I paid shown against it.

That sounds like the consideration for the freehold interest - I wonder if the LR have made a mistake.

It could be a lease extension. That creates a new title number.

Possibly. But would there still be a trail leading back to the purchased title?

Well what’s registered against the property?

Would it be worth purchasing copies of the title deeds to find out more?

It should say under the basic details of the lease that the original lease dated X was registered under title number X.
