What do you eat to help get rid of a headache?

I’ve had a headache since yesterday that I can’t shift and I’ve got loads to do today. I know it’s important to eat and drink regularly if you are prone to headaches. I’ve had a cup of tea, a piece of toast and a painkiller and it’s still there. What do you find helps?

For a migraine - carbs.

It works but the downside was I had really frequent migraine and put on 4 stone Sad

You need something to restrict the blood vessels. Red coke is a well known migraine go to.

What painkillers are you taking?

ColinRobinsonsfamiliar · 24/12/2022 09:02

Loads of water in case of dehydration and paracetamol.

Avoid caffeine and things like chocolate.

Jammy Dodgers and ready salted crisps.

pastypirate · 24/12/2022 09:07

Soluble aspirin and then some dioralyte if you have any.

guessagain · 24/12/2022 09:07

Drink lots of water.
co-codamol if you can get any.

Just try and eat good foods, I know hard to do at this time of year, so try to avoid chocolate, cheese, wine, all the fun stuff really, sorry!

Hope it goes & you feel better soon.

Bananas

puppydogg14 · 24/12/2022 09:12

Lots of water. I get migraines a lot and find a hot water bottle or wheatbag on the back of my neck eases it quite quickly!

FreakyPurple · 24/12/2022 09:15

My boyfriend does this thing where he pinches the pressure points along the tops of my ears with his fingers (as hard as I can stand). All along from where the top of my ear meets my head - I was really sceptical but it works

GetOffTheRoof · 24/12/2022 09:18

3 X 300mg aspirin
Plenty of full fat coke or Pepsi
Carbs

Unfortunately I have chronically migraine and like a PP I am at least 4 stone heavier than I used to be because of food cravings and food therapy for migraine attacks....

I’m the headache queen and I’ve had them for a few days now. I take feverfew daily when I’m going through a stormy psych and it really helps!
Had one this morning. I take an olbas bath or add eucalyptus oil and put a reusable heated eye pillow on for 10 minutes while in the bath. Breathe and just let go. I also use a cooling jade roller on my face, around my eyes especially for 10 minutes. I start most mornings this way. It’s 30 minutes just for me to find my Zen! Add a milky, strong, sweet coffee (lactose free or oat milk- my stomach is messy by nature ) and I’m good to go.

Ready salted crisps, drink, painkillers, heat on back of neck.

also get some ibuprofen lysine to shift it.

MrsSkylerWhite · 24/12/2022 09:20

squash with sugar in it and cream crackers.

TheVanguardSix · 24/12/2022 09:20

stormy patch… not psych. 😁

Batcountry8 · 24/12/2022 09:21

Try to keep drinking as much water as you can today and tomorrow.
I stand by the sink and down a couple of glasses.

Ibuprofen with lysine helps me.

Crisps
Digestives

Ideally full fat cola and a paracetamol.
Or diet cola and sugary creamy porridge/bacon sandwich.

You need to stabilise blood sugars, so fast sugars and slow sugars.
Then protein.
Dehydration- sugar and salt.

So creamy porridge with a pinch of salt and a sprinkle of sugar (fat, protein, slow and fast sugars).
Bacon sandwich (slow, fast and protein).

Caffeine from the cola, or strong coffee.

That's for my migraine headaches anyway. Heads it off completely if I do that then have a nap.

In the evening, a shot of something helps too- relaxation.

Madeyoulook · 24/12/2022 09:38

Lots of ideas thanks! I am craving healthy food but just cut an avocado and it was black. I have a banana so that’s easy. I will try carbs and stodge for lunch.

I don’t like coke but have bought some for the teenagers for tomorrow so worth a try!

I took ibuprofen today and in the night.

You can get caffeine tablets, if you don't like coffee or cola.
DS and I both find the same thing works.

AnnaMagnani · 24/12/2022 09:43

Disagree with avoid caffeine.

Increasing your caffeine can trigger a migraine. However once it's there, a hefty dose of caffeine can help kick it into touch.

I get my DH to make me a double espresso.

serenaisaknobhead · 24/12/2022 10:03

Normal coke. Big ol' glass full.

IndieK1d · 24/12/2022 10:05

Peanut butter on toast

PenelopeTitsDrop3121 · 24/12/2022 10:07

Crisps or toast x

whereaw · 24/12/2022 10:07

Definitely coke! As long as it has caffeine. And paracetamol

ChristmasCrackler · 24/12/2022 10:10

I drink coke too. Caffeine/sugar/ whatever other crap theý put in it work wonders on a normal headache.
If down with a full migraine i can barely manage water!
