Anyone else get this in the mornings ?

My fingers every morning are sore and stiff, like they ache? I'm 3 months pp and it started towards the end of pregnancy so I thought it was just due to the swelling but it hasn't gone away at all, has anyone else had this after pregnancy ?

I have this, although mine is caused by taking oestrogen suppressing medication. Hormones are obviously all over the place during pregnancy so maybe it's caused by them settling down? I'm no medic though, so probably worth mentioning to your GP.

Congratulations on your little one.

I had this for about a month it's so weird. Incredibly painful.

My hands and wrists were soo painful I couldn't touch anything at all it was excruciating. Even the duvet in the in killed!

It wore off over the day and then resolved after a few weeks thankfully.

Dr Google suggest carpal tunnel

confusedlots · 24/12/2022 09:24

I had this after I gave birth, can't remember how long it lasted but maybe a couple of months? I remember not being able to open lids on jars as it was just too painful!

Seems it's definitely a hormone thing then ? Mine aren't painful in the day have no issues gripping or anything, it's just the morning time and through the night ! Worried it's arthritis at the grand old age of 33 😆

Mine was also post miscarriage so never considered the hormonal link before and it makes so much sense now!

pinkvariant · 24/12/2022 10:44

I actually had this when I was pregnant and then for a couple of months after I gave birth. I don't have it now though. My baby is 5 months old.

Well my fingers are still hurting every morning but now it's also happening randomly throughout the day. Also my one wrist is hurting now, and when holding something it's becoming painful, so it seems like it's getting worse rather than better.

I did mention it to the gp who said it could be reynauds? I don't think it is though !!

Carpel Tunnel can occur during pregnancy. Have a google.

Kam610 · 12/01/2023 19:50

I had this during my first pregnancy. It's carpal tunnel syndrome. Mine was so severe that I would wake up in agony, my fingers would curl up into a tight fist and I couldn't open them, my wrists were painful and I'd get shooting pain up my arms. I used to have to run my wrists under warm water just so I could open up my fingers. You can get wrist splints to wear overnight. This helped me massively but not completely. Mine was caused by a huge amount of excess fluid/swelling due to pre-eclampsia.

stifffingers · 12/01/2023 20:29

I did think this firstly and it would be the clear explanation wouldn't it, but I don't have any tingling or numbness ? It doesn't feel like nerve pain. It's just stiffness and soreness, I have it in both hands but my dominant hand is much worse

I had this with my feet in the morning for about 18 months after having my last baby! I thought this was going to be permanent but it did go away in the end!

Ahh, good to hear it went away eventually. Can't believe the things pregnancy does to our bodies !

I had terrible trouble with my joints after I had my DS, I was told it was post natal arthritis and it usually goes away by about 6 months after birth which was fairly accurate for me

Kam610 · 12/01/2023 21:43

I didn't necessarily always have numbness or tingling, sometimes it was just pain, but was definitely carpal tunnel. The extra fluid just puts pressure on the nerves in your wrist. Definitely worth trying a splint. Mine went away after pregnancy but I still sometimes get the odd morning with sore fingers or numbness if I've slept with my wrists all bent.

Patertater · 12/01/2023 21:45

It sounds like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome as someone else has mentioned as well. Buy wrist supports from Amazon and you will feel better.

stifffingers · 13/01/2023 09:59

After doing some more reading think it might be carpul tunnel lol

Wow I have this. I'm off to look at carpal tunnel. I've been tested for arthritis but they couldn't find any.

stifffingers · 14/01/2023 14:27

Horrible isn't it @demotedreally

I'm back and forth wondering if it is carpal tunnel or not...

I have no tingling or numbness, just pain in my finger joints. Also my ankles are painful today. And I'm struggling to grip things today without it being painful. Going to give the gp a call Monday!

So I went to the gp as it's just becoming more and more painful now. Gp has said he thinks it's joint disease. Have booked some bloods in to check for rheumatism.

This was the first symptom to go away when I started HRT. Some days they were so painful that I wanted to cry if I knocked them. I also remember them being painful during pregnancy. So I would guess it can be a hormonal thing,

GrammyHall · 17/01/2023 01:42

I got this with perimenopause, hrt made it go away.

Yeah I reckon so too. Just strange how it's getting worse rather than better...

I did also read about there being a link between RA and diabetes. I had gestational diabetes and making me wonder if it could be linked to that in any way?
