Anyone else just not feeling it this year?

Looking for some solidarity and maybe some tips to get me in the festive spirit.

I usually love Christmas but this year despite partaking in many family christmas activities (santa visit, panto, ice skating etc), having lots of lovely decorations around our village and at home, some nice festive socialising - I just don't feel Christmassy at all! And I don't know why or how to fix it!

Any others in the same boat or suggest how to try and salvage some festive cheer with just over 24 hours to go?

I have an urge to go to midnight mass tomorrow night

I'm working all weekend

Unfortunately we only celebrate commercial Christmas - I think I'd spontaneously combust if I entered a church 😂

My dm passed away in September, so I’m having to change a few traditions. I’ve kept seeing things in the shops my dm would’ve liked and had to stop myself. It’s all been very strange.

Don't know why! Not been inside a church for years!

Also, it's the first year I've worked the entirety of Christmas!

It won't be much fun as I work in a prison and the lads won't be in a celebratory mood I guess, but we will see. They get a Christmas dinner and I might help some do crosswords or worksheets

That will be my Christmas Day !

Yes I know how you feel. I've been excited about the time off work, spending time together, Christmas movies etc - I've had an emotional breakdown/ anxiety spiral instead. I hope I can pull myself together for the next few days.

I hope you start feeling Christmassy too OP!

I'm sorry, I just realised you asked for tips! Solidarity is all I can offer.

I only make a big effort for my two lovely long term student lodgers...they stayed on in the uk after studies, one has no parents as both died a few years ago and the other only has his mum now....i make a nice dinner for them and get them both some gifts, decorate the front garden and house....but many houses near us have no lights or a tree.....our shops also very quiet....central london also very quiet on wednesday....few people with shopping bags....i dont think a lot of people are making an effort this year.....

@LadyGaGasPokerFace so sorry to hear that, the first Christmas without a loved one is always hard and strange, leaves you feeling a bit adrift.

I haven't had any mince pies so far as DH keeps forgetting to buy them so it doesn't even feel like it's December yet for me.

I’m exhausted and doing as little as humanly possible this Christmas apart from family dinner on Christmas Day. No kids so it’s not hurting anyone.

I only have the four day long weekend off over Christmas and I’m feeling grumpy today because my retired dad has decided that this morning would be a great time to come over and do some work in my garden / patio area. Obviously I’m grateful for his help but I’m not a morning person and my days off are precious. I warned him I’d be grumpy and still in bed. Hope he doesn’t mind. My work has still been insanely busy so I just need to decompress a bit.

Me!! Usually adore it but can't get in the Christmas spirit at all. Feel flat and annoyed . Lost my mum in October so feel sad too. The weather is wet and windy and not Christmassy. All in all not feeling it.

I have 2 essays to write before beginning of Jan. I could cry and probably will.
All spare time needs to be used to finish them, I'm so behind.

I normally love Christmas and really look forward to everything about it, but too stressed this year.
