Christmas Eve in York

We have an appointment early ish near York on Christmas Eve and have some parking booked in central York for after the appointment.

Is there anything in particular happens in York on Christmas Eve? Anything we should try to do/see? We have teenagers not young children.

Any ideas gratefully received.

Cannot think of anything that will be going on. Xmas market will be over. The lights are lovely and you could see the new statue of the Queen at the Minster. I imagine the city centre will be heaving though.

Ah I didnt know know there was a Queen statue, we will take a look at that. Yes I'm imagining heaving as well so maybe just lunch (we have booked a table) and a fairly quick exit.

The statue of the Queen was unveiled by King Charles recently (the great egg throwing episode!). Locals are not fond of the statue. The Queen's hands are far too big, but hey ho, it is up.

Glad you have somewhere booked for lunch! The queues recently have been ridiculous. There are lots of nice lights everywhere and a good atmosphere generally.

Have a great day!
