IPhone stolen

Hi, my sons iPhone was lost/stolen on holiday this week. We tried to track it straight away but couldn't see a location (website said some countries don't support the tracking or something like that) it was turned off when we called it once he realised.

We had to leave to come home and I tracked it today and now and then it's showing a location but is always switched off when I call. Phone is in lost mode for now.

Does anyone know how the tracking works, is someone turning it on now and then? Battery only 12% left now so won't be long before we can't track unless someone charges it.

Hotel not massively helpful, person I spoke to on phone speaks limited English, I emailed but even if it gets handed in I've not idea if they will call me to say.

I'm so cross with him but feel bad for feeling annoyed, his has autism/ADHD and is mega unorganised and doesn't think things through as doesnt see the consequences at the time of doing things, he went in the pool and left it under his towel he reckons. He has only had it since April so phone is still over £400 to replace, I am cross also that I checked the box not to get gadget insurance!!

Sorry long winded post asking how the tracking works if phone is switched off!

I think you need to get the IMEI number blocked. Phone the Apple helpline, they're pretty good.

Check if it's covered under your holiday insurance, home insurance or bank insurance.

It's unlikely you can get it back.

Blocking an imei only works to block it within the uk.

Thank you, I can remotely delete everything but obv can't track it after that, it's a lost cause I think.

It may be covered under our home insurance actually, stupidly didn't think of that.

Name change fail op @FlirtyMelons @FlirtyMelons

Id check your insurance as others have said and get it blocked then it is totally useless to whoever has it

Lol, I think I accidently switched, no particular reason as I have nothing to hide as this is clearly very uninteresting haha!

Thank you, I think I'll just delete everything, so frustrating and struggling to log into anything on other devices as the 2 factor authentication all goes to his phone number, ordered a new sim Weds but obv with Royal Mail who knows when it'll arrive.

Unbelievably the hotel called and they have the phone. Did not expect to get that call, apparently they found it on a sunbed. Booked a courier to collect it, costs a fortune from Canary Islands to UK but a lot less than a new phone!!
