The xmas lurgy

tocas · 23/12/2022 06:09

A virus. It's grim.

Skiingonagreen · 23/12/2022 06:10

Impossible to get a Dr's apt here... Will panadol help?

Sorry to break this to you but the cough will come. 3 weeks later I'm still coughing away 😪😪

pelargoniums · 23/12/2022 06:11

You don’t need a doctor’s appointment surely for a headache and sore throat? Painkillers, hydration and going back to sleep for a bit. Peer down your throat later to see if it’s tonsillitisy.

Paracetamol? Sure give it a go.

If you can't look at a bright light or get a rash I'd call 111

Skiingonagreen · 23/12/2022 06:15

Thanks everyone, had my tonsils removed as a child.. The sore neck is horrible, really hurts to move my head...

Surely parasol is worth a try, no one on MN can tell you if it will help but it's worth a go. It doesn't sound like you need to see a doctor, it sounds from
What you've typed like you need a couple in day in bed and some Lemsip.

ThaiDye · 23/12/2022 06:16

Sounds like covid. My MIL had sore neck for two days before testing positive.

xmaslurgy · 23/12/2022 06:17

Good shout - try a covid test?

HollyBollyBooBoo · 23/12/2022 06:23

There are so many viruses going around at the moment. Do a Covid test to rule it out. Otherwise could be sore throat/laryngitis.

TimeForMeToF1y · 23/12/2022 06:24

Why do you need a doctor's appointment?

Pretty Much the whole country Is ill with coughs, cold, the lurgy, covid

FangedFrisbee · 23/12/2022 06:24

Why do you need a drs appointment?

DewinDwl · 23/12/2022 06:26

In my area covid seems to come with a sore neck this time...

ThaiDye · 23/12/2022 06:28

Also if you do test negative, doesn't mean it's not covid. Lots of people on here saying they didn't get a positive till day 5 or 7 of symptoms... so I would just assume it's covid.

NeedToKnow101 · 23/12/2022 06:38

It's just a lurgy going round. I've just had it.

MattDillonsEyebrows · 23/12/2022 06:40

oh dear, I think you’ve just proved exactly why the NHS is in a mess! It seems so many people can’t feel ill for a few days without ‘seeing a doctor’!

OP, I’m on day 3 of the same thing. It’s horrible, my throat feels like knives, I’m coughing, my chest really hurts and yesterday my sinuses all got blocked! I also have a temperature. I’m taking paracetamol, decongestant, and lots of water. I’ve also realised I’ve had very little nutritional food over the last few weeks which will have lowered my immune system so I’m going to take vitamins for the next few days.

It will pass, it’s not easy, rest when you can, and cancel social plans. It really sucks but unless it carries on over a week or two, you don’t need a doctor!

Kristabell · 23/12/2022 06:43

Sounds like covid. That's the only virus I seem to get a sore neck with.

Passthecake30 · 23/12/2022 06:44

Make sure you’re stocked up on lemsip/cold and flu tablets, ibuprofen, strepsils, tissues, cough mixture and soup. I wouldn’t contact the docs unless you have an underlying health condition which
meant you might need steroids over Xmas.

Ursuladevine · 23/12/2022 06:47

A GP app? Good heavens no.

Rest, paracetamol, fluids

no wonder the nhs is on its knees

CornishTiger · 23/12/2022 06:48

There is a vile virus going around. I did see someone at doctors yesterday to check me over ( lots of recent health issues).

Nearly 24 hrs in I’m feeling alot better. This time yesterday I was still asleep dying. Fever broke too.

REST and FLUIDS. Standard boring I know but it helped.

CornishTiger · 23/12/2022 06:49

Do watch the sore neck and any sensitivity to light. Rash.

it’s easy to miss more serious things dismissing it’s a virus.

What do you expect a Dr to do that you can't do yourself at home?

Yes this would be my concern.

They wouldn't get past the receptionist if they didn't need an appointment so no this is not the reason the NHS is on its knees. That is the years of underfunding.
